ANNUAL DISTRIBUTION OF EIDI IN JAIL 2014 BY APWA

The sole aim and object of the jail project of All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA) is to provide help to the one who has been cut off from their dear ones and to provide assistance to the inmates of the women’s jail.
APWA’s aim is to provide the women prisoners with free material so that they are more motivated towards work and can earn a handsome amount of money
Among various other esteemed projects, APWA has set an industrial home in Jail for the last 17 years which helps women prisoners to learn to sew and knit. This builds their confidence and enhances their skills which they can put to work to make an honest living.

Every year on special occasions like Eid-ul-Fitr, APWA executive members visit Women Jail laden with gifts for prisoners.

Our members provided the prisoners with Eidi, gifts, sweets, biscuits, balloons and clothes to the children. They were also given milk donated by Nestlé Pakistan Ltd. This time lots of handicrafts cushion covers and bags were given for stitching and they earned handsome amount for their livelihood. The products made by them were exhibited at the exhibition with the slogan “Support a cause”. Jute cushions were appreciated by everyone at the exhibition which was donated by APWA headquarters. Furthermore, the women police were also given Eidi.Apwa representatives met the prisoners and interviewed them regarding their emotions. They were very happy with APWA’s new craft project in which APWA is empowering women.

Women prisoners along with their children were escorted by the police to the garden where we handed out their gifts. The women and kids were delighted on receiving these lovely gifts. According to Sunny, a 5 year old, says they look forward to our visits every Eid.

“To give away money is an easy matter in any man’s power. But to decide to whom to give it, and how large and when, and for what purpose and how, is neither in every man’s power nor an easy matter.”

This year APWA’s executive members were accompanied by two known TV artist Sabreena and Mona to spend some moments of happiness with these prisoners and their children.

We are pleased to inform that for the first time in history, 6 women in jail will be sitting in ateqaf(special Ramadan sitting for prayers purpose). All the arrangements for the sitting is being done by Jail’s senior superintendent Sheeba Shah.

APWA will continue to serve the needy and bring a smile on the faces of such underprivileged women and children
