RCK New Central organized a session on “Climate Change: A Growing Threat to Human Health” at KMC Midwifery School, Gizri, on 27th August. The session was facilitated by Dr. Arjumand Rabbani and was attended by 25 students and one faculty member.

Dr. Rabbani explained how Pakistan is experiencing rapid climate change, driven largely by increasing greenhouse gas emissions resulting from human activities. This has significant impact on human health, including heatwaves, water-borne diseases, food insecurity, maternal and child malnutrition, and mental health problems. She briefed how to protect public health by tree plantation, environmental conservation, responsible use of natural resources and waste reduction. Participants promised to take practical steps toward creating a healthier environment.

Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, RCKNC Polio Chair, organized a health session on 20th August at Al Furqan School, Bhittai Colony on “Hygiene: The First Line of Defense Against Disease ”.

Dr. Rabbani explained the key principles of personal and environmental hygiene and emphasized how adopting good hygiene practices contributes to physical, mental, and social well-being and builds healthy communities. 35 students and 2 faculty members actively participated in the discussion.

Dr. Rabbani also discussed the important role of school management and teachers in promoting, reinforcing, and maintaining healthy habits among students.

The following day, the same session was conducted for the remaining students who were unable to attend the first one.

Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, RCK New Central Polio Chair and Rotary District 3271 Co-Chair, Disease Prevention & Treatment, conducted a session on Healthy Lifestyle at Al Furqan School, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, on 18th August. It was a highly interactive session, with 41 students and 3 teachers.

Dr Rabbani highlighted the importance of personal hygiene, immunization, a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and stress management in preventing diseases and reducing the impact of existing health conditions. She encouraged the participants to adopt these healthy practices in their daily lives and share the information with friends and family. She said that small, positive lifestyle changes can help everyone enjoy a healthier, happier life.

RCK New Central celebrated Jashn-e-Azadi with students and staff of Al Furqan School on 13th August.

Service Projects Chair, Dr Talat Rizvi, welcomed the participants and explained the club's project, “Aagay Barho Sub“ which will support Al Furqan school students who achieve A+, and A grades in 10th grade for their college and professional degree education.

Two students shared their success stories, followed by performances of milli naghmay.

RCKNC Polio Chair, Dr Arjumand Rabbani, then related her inspiring experience of migration from India to Pakistan through some historic pictures.

The event concluded with distribution of prizes by RCKNC members to 12 high-achievers, followed by refreshments. It was an engaging and enjoyable experience celebrating the spirit of Independence Day with the students.

Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, RCK New Central Polio Chair and Rotary District 3271 Co-Chair for Disease Prevention & Treatment, conducted a session on Prevention of Anemia in Pregnancy on 12th August at Bilqis Edhi Midwifery School, Lyari. 30 students and one faculty member participated in the session.

Dr Rabbani informed that anemia is a leading indirect cause of maternal mortality and its prevention should begin from puberty, preferably before pregnancy. She stressed the important role of midwives in early antenatal care, iron and folic acid supplementation, nutritious diet, timely screening, and prompt treatment of the underlying causes of anemia. Such measures can help reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality and improve outcomes for both mother and baby.

On 9th August, RCK New Central and RCK Elite held a joint tree plantation drive at Urban Forest, Clifton, in collaboration with Friends of the Forest and Flying Carpet.

The program began with a tour of the forest, followed by plantation of moringa saplings donated by RCKNC, by DG Shahzad Sabir, AG Shanaz Ramzi, President Almas Tariq and other Rotarians.

Participants then enjoyed the tea and refreshments arranged for by RCK Elite. A bouquet, and a handwoven cloth bag were presented to the DG. All guests were also presented with environment-friendly, paintable bags.

After brief speeches by the host clubs, the program concluded with everyone singing national songs. It was a well-organised and enjoyable affair, with Rotarians as well as friends and family in attendance in large numbers.

DG Shahzad Sabir attended a play by students of Al Furqan Welfare Foundation (AFWO) schools on 7th August at the Arts Council. RCK New Central was one of the sponsors of the event.

The play titled "Aladdin in a whole new world of masailistan" was a fundraiser to support AFWO ’s educational initiatives for underprivileged students across 17 schools. DG Shahzad Sabir pledged Rs. 200,000 for scholarships for outstanding students.

Several RCKNC members, along with persons from different walks of life and students of other schools attended the well-organized program and enjoyed the performances.

A session on Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of Hepatitis B was facilitated at Cowasjee Midwifery School on 5th August by Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, RCK New Central's Polio Chair and Rotary District 3271 Co-Chair of Disease Prevention & Treatment.

Dr. Rabbani informed that Hepatitis B is a major public health challenge in Pakistan and emphasized that every pregnant woman should be screened for Hepatitis B and that timely preventive measures at birth can prevent up to 90% of mother-to-child transmission of the infection.

The session was attended by 35 student midwives from Sindh, KPK, and Baluchistan, along with two faculty members. Dr. Rabbani encouraged CMWs to promote awareness about Hepatitis B vertical transmission and contribute towards achieving Pakistan's viral hepatitis elimination goals.

RCK New Central held an awareness session on "Climate Change and its effect on Health in Pakistan” at Community Midwifery School, Kharadar General Hospital on 20th July.

Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, RCKNC Polio Chair and Rotary District 3271 Co-Chair, Disease Prevention & Treatment, facilitated the session.She discussed the major causes of climate change and its adverse health impacts, such as heat-related illnesses, water-borne diseases, food insecurity, maternal and child malnutrition, and disruption of healthcare services.

Dr Arjumand encouraged students to adopt practices like conserving natural resources, reducing waste, planting trees, and promoting sustainable lifestyles to help protect both the environment and public health.

27 students and 2 faculty members participated in the engaging session.
