Today for the first time, I saw an elderly traffic constable controlling huge traffic alone, and suddenly two boys on motorcycle came, slapped him fiercely which made constable fall down and ran away. He rose up, cleaned his clothes and went on with controlling traffic again. I stood there for two hours and kept observing him. That constable was trying hard to control his tears, but he couldn't. Tears kept rolling down from his eyes as he kept controlling the traffic.
Then for the first time ever, I felt ashamed of being 'Pakistani'.
That elderly and weak constable stands in the middle of road and controls traffic, whether it's hot or cold, so that no ambulance gets stuck in traffic, so that no one has to lose his/her loved one due to traffic jam. He said all this to me when I was going to drop him to his home. He told me that 5 years ago, his son was hit by a fast driving truck and died on the spot. He kept weeping all the way down his home, said he wished he could stop that truck from breaking the signal that day.
And, yet again, this aged man will wake up tomorrow, wear his uniform and will stand at same spot in the scorching heat for hours, for our sake, or perhaps for his disabled wife and5 daughters' sake. "A SINGLE GUY, RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS WHOLE FAMILY".
I feel sorry for those two boys who slapped a man equal to their fathers' ages. There's surely a lack in their bringing up.
How this 60 year old man bears scorching heat and dry weather during daytime and intense headlights of vehicles at night time, just for few bucks, so that his family gets bread for two times a day.
I say we should help such hardworking people, rather than criticizing, abusing or hitting them. They deserve our attention and respect.
Be a Muslim, Be a Pakistani and at least, be a human being.
