A high-level meeting was convened under the chairmanship of the Mr. Khalid Khan, Secretary, Elementary & Secondary Education Department (E&SED), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to conduct the End-Year Review of the UNICEF–KP&ESED approved mutli year work plan 2025-26. The review process brought together key officials from E&SED and representatives from UNICEF to review progress on joint initiatives implemented during the year.
The agenda primarily focused on interventions targeting deprived children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs), with special emphasis on addressing the challenges of Out-of-School Children (OOSC). The participants presented detailed progress reports, highlighted district-wise achievements, identified bottlenecks, and proposed strategic actions to enhance outreach and service delivery.
The forum also reviewed enrollment drives, community engagement strategies, Alternative Learning Pathways (ALPs), and initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education for children from marginalized and underserved areas. UNICEF’s technical and operational support—particularly in data validation, mapping of OOSC, and strengthening school readiness initiatives—was appreciated.
During the meeting, the Secretary of E&SED issued clear instructions that all Out-of-School Children (OOSC) in the winter zone must be admitted to schools in the coming winter vacations without delay, ensuring that no child remains outside the education system during the current academic period. He emphasized the importance of proactive district-level follow-up, strengthening coordination with field formations, and utilizing all available resources to achieve maximum enrollment.
The Secretary reiterated the Department’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities, ensuring equity, and sustaining collaboration with development partners through the coordination committee to realize the shared vision of providing quality education for every child in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
