The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah (9th Dhul-Hijjah) and the Day of ‘Ashura (10th Muharram). These two days carry immense spiritual significance, as they are means of forgiveness for minor sins.
Fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah is reported to expiate the sins of the previous year and the coming year, while fasting on the Day of ‘Ashura expiates the sins of the previous year.
The Prophet (PBUH) said regarding these fasts: “It will expiate the sins of the previous year and the coming year (Arafah), and the past year (Ashura).” These days are a reminder of Allah’s mercy and the importance of voluntary worship, repentance, and seeking forgiveness.
