Railways Police IG holds video conference
Lahore: An important video link conference was held at the Central Police Office Railways under the chairmanship of IG Railways Police, Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan. The conference reviewed in detail key issues including crimes reported over the past six months, prevention of railway material theft, anti-encroachment operations, smuggling, under-investigation cases, and the arrest of police and court absconders. The conference was attended by DIG Munir Ahmed Sheikh, AIG Admin Syed Hammad Haider, and SPs of all divisions.
During the conference, the IG Railways Police emphasized the need for strict and effective measures to curb railway material theft, anti-encroachment violations, and smuggling. He stated that operational railway material such as signal wires, track equipment, and coach components are not only valuable national assets but are also critical for the safety and timely operation of trains. Therefore, preventing such crimes must be treated as a top priority.
The IG directed that indiscriminate and strict legal action be taken against organized groups involved in railway material theft. He stressed that not only should such elements be arrested, but their effective prosecution must also be ensured to secure convictions. Furthermore, even after sentencing, these individuals should remain under surveillance to prevent their re-involvement in such activities.
He further directed that all forms of encroachments on railway land—whether commercial, agricultural, or residential—must be eliminated through vigorous anti-encroachment operations. In close coordination with railway authorities, illegal occupations should not only be removed but unlawful constructions must also be completely demolished to prevent re-encroachment. Additionally, verification of railway quarters should be completed at the earliest. Wherever subletting or illegal occupation is found, the quarters must be vacated immediately and legal action should be taken against those responsible.
Regarding smuggling, the IG instructed that effective operations be carried out against the transportation of illegal weapons, narcotics, and currency, with special focus on sensitive routes such as Peshawar, Karachi, and Quetta. He noted that preventing the use of the railway network for smuggling is a critical requirement for national security.
He also emphasized that the safety and security of railway passengers and their belongings must be ensured at all costs, as passengers are the most valuable asset of the railway system. Security measures at trains, platforms, and waiting areas should be further strengthened, and proactive steps must be taken to prevent any untoward incidents.
The IG directed all SPs to adopt a comprehensive strategy for ensuring train security and to maintain effective coordination with district police and district administration to further strengthen the overall security framework. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of foreign nationals, whether they are engineers working with Pakistan Railways or tourists, and directed that their security be ensured through all possible means.
The IG Railways Police further highlighted that the success of any force depends on strict discipline, and there will be no compromise on discipline. He made it clear that corruption will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Officers demonstrating good performance will be encouraged, while strict and immediate action will be taken against those involved in violations. He added that special attention is being given to financial empowerment and welfare initiatives to transform Railways Police into a model, people-friendly force, enabling personnel to perform their duties more effectively.
