*25 Cases Registered for Serious Traffic Violations in Lahore*
Lahore: City Traffic Police Lahore has intensified its crackdown against serious traffic violations, registering 25 criminal cases instead of issuing routine challans against offenders involved in major traffic law breaches.
According to the enforcement details, 12 cases were registered against vehicle owners using fake and bogus number plates, while 13 cases were registered against drivers involved in dangerous and reckless driving.
During the campaign, heavy fines were imposed on 1,810 vehicles found operating without number plates or displaying “Applied For” plates. Action was also taken against 866 motorcycles and vehicles using fancy or non-standard number plates that did not conform to the approved Excise Department specifications.
Furthermore, enforcement action was initiated against 1,113 vehicles and motorcycles for displaying broken, tampered, or concealed number plates, including attempts to hide vehicle model information.
In addition to enforcement measures, more than 10,000 vehicle and motorcycle owners were educated regarding traffic laws and the importance of displaying legal and clearly visible registration plates.
CTO Lahore, Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, stated that driving a vehicle without a number plate carries a fine of Rs. 3,000 for cars and Rs. 1,000 for motorcycles. He further warned that criminal cases under fraud-related provisions would be registered against individuals using bogus number plates, illegal green number plates, unauthorized blue lights, or any other deceptive vehicle markings.
The CTO advised citizens who transfer ownership of vehicles to replace old registration numbers with their newly issued universal registration numbers as required by law.
“Many motorists tamper with or conceal their number plates to evade e-challans and law enforcement,” said CTO Lahore. “Similarly, criminals and habitual lawbreakers often use fake number plates to conceal their identities and avoid detection.”
He clarified that vehicles displaying number plates strictly in accordance with Excise Department specifications will not be challaned, and urged all road users to ensure compliance with the prescribed regulations.
