On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Government of Punjab is introducing key reforms to strengthen the regulation of private educational institutions and promote transparent, technology-driven governance.

Proposed amendments to the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) Ordinance, 1984, and the related rules will simplify school registration, extend registration validity, and introduce a transparent and faster Building Fitness Certificate mechanism, with student safety remaining non-negotiable.

The reforms also include increasing the minimum number of instructional days to 190 in the annual academic calendar for minimizing learning loss. The Government is also committed to ensuring at least 10% enrolment quota for disadvantaged children in all private schools, free of cost, as per the law, reinforcing the Government’s resolve to provide quality and accessible education across Punjab. In this regard, a meeting was held at the School Education Department (SED), led by Secretary School Education, with private school associations, during which education sector reforms and initiatives were briefed.
