The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement International Conference 2026 will be held on 14 July 2026 at the Nelson Mandela Lecture Theatre, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

Internal Colonialism, Imperialism, and Pashtun Resistance: The Politics of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement
For decades, Pashtun regions have remained at the intersection of militarisation, imperial intervention, political marginalisation, and state violence. This conference seeks to critically examine the structures of internal colonialism and imperialism that continue to shape the lives, identities, and futures of the Pashtun people, while exploring the emergence of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement as one of the most significant contemporary non-violent movements for justice, dignity, and accountability.
Bringing together academics, researchers, journalists, lawyers, human rights defenders, students, and activists from across the world, the conference aims to create an international platform for critical debate on colonial continuities, the politics of the frontier, enforced disappearances, displacement, militarisation, resistance, and the struggle for democratic rights and self-determination.
At a time when voices from the margins continue to be silenced, this conference seeks to amplify scholarship, lived experiences, and political dialogue that challenge dominant narratives and contribute to a more just and democratic future.
