🇵🇰 14th August — We Used to Celebrate It Differently. ❤️
If you’re an 80s or 90s kid, you probably remember how different Independence Day used to feel.
We didn’t need expensive decorations, fancy events, or social media posts.
We would buy those tiny Pakistan flags (jhandian) and decorate our houses with them. We made our own glue with atta and water and proudly stuck decorations everywhere. 😂❤️
We would decorate our front lawns with those little Pakistan Map “sceneries”, put our hearts and creativity into them, and then go around the neighborhood collecting chanda from every house.
And then came the real competition… 😄
Which street made the best scenery? 🇵🇰
Every street wanted to be better than the other. There was excitement, creativity, laughter, and a strange sense of pride that is difficult to explain today.
I still remember Faisal Sb of Broadway, Anwar Chowk, who would give sweets to every child who made a scenery. Those little things meant SO much to us back then. ❤️
We didn’t have much money.
But somehow, we had more time, more imagination, and more happiness.
So, to all my fellow 80s and 90s kids who are parents today:
Please let your children experience a little bit of the childhood we had.
Give them a few flags and some simple decorations. Let them make a Pakistan Map scenery. Let them collect chanda from the neighbors (with your supervision 😄). Let them compete with the kids from the next street.
And most importantly…
Join them. 🇵🇰❤️
Maybe there were things we wanted to do as children but couldn’t — because there wasn’t enough money, or our parents were too busy, or life simply didn’t allow it.
Now we have a chance.
Live those moments with your children. Fulfill the little wishes your childhood never got to fulfill.
Because one day, they too will grow up.
And what they will remember won’t be the expensive toys or the things we bought them.
They’ll remember the day their parents sat beside them, made a scenery with them, put up little jhandian together, laughed together, and celebrated Pakistan together. 🇵🇰❤️
Happy Independence Day to the generation that celebrated Pakistan with atta ki glue, paper flags, chanda, and pure hearts. 🇵🇰
Let’s give our children the childhood we once had — and perhaps the childhood we once wished we had. ❤️
