A few days ago I seen a post from the Horse and Hounds about someone reporting them about the illuminated Inn sign , No doubt a immigrant to the village who has a problem with local culture . However there opinion is of no importance as they have not been in the village long to know the Inn sign has been there for over a hundred years only changing in name from the New Inn to the Horse and Hounds with no complaints apart from the question why the name change , not a problem as the Inn still gave the same good service to the village with many landlords and landlady's .
If the anonymous person who complained took a visit to spec savers and took a night time walk around the village he or she would see many more illuminated signs that have been in place for years without complaint, In my opinion being anonymous gives you no right to complain or report something that is a part of the village that if they don't like then they don't belong . We all have complaints and things we don't like and voice our opinions and name , and don't delete our comments if we make a mistake . I can no longer see the Broadway page the original was on

Andy Rose has sent me a up date to my list of change over the last 70 plus years and its scary to see what we let progress do to Broadway .

A house that now is 31 high street was my grandparents house Heber John Keyte senior a village self employed painter and decorator and his wife Susan Butler Keyte lived there in the early 1900s my mother and her brothers and sister was raised in it .
What made Broadway a village was its village residents some families going back hundreds of years .
I myself come from one such family who's mother was born to my grandparents who lived at 31 high street in the early years of the 1900 s.
As a small village everyone knew each other by name farmers, shop keepers pub landlords and the posh folk in the big houses and last of all the village bobby .
Sadly over the years the village as evolved in to a small town with maybe as many as 3,000 residents now far form the few hundred of the 1800 an 1900s when it was a village as I remember it.
Tourists and lust for money and city folk robbed the village of its heritage at a price, the shops and shop keepers of yesteryear have all gone and now replaced with cafes ,tea shops , art galleries , antique shops, with tacky pavement signage and some even bolted to listed buildings , who let this happen ?.
This may be fine for tourists and entrepreneur’s but along with the progress and traffic lights and CCTV cameras the village is no longer the one I remember.
Don’t misunderstand me progress is important along with change to our lives , but don’t destroy the past in doing it , History belongs to us all. Governments , Borough Councils , and the Rich have no right to take and destroy it.
So what has the village lost in my life time of 76 years .

My memory of yesteryear . Starting at Orchard avenue . Fish & Chip shop / Grocery shop . and a Cobblers

Leamington road a Haberdashery shop, Sweet shop, Bakers ,CoOP Butchers a Monastery and Vicarage Police station.

Fish Hill Garage Pub,Council rubbish dump .
North Street Police station ,Pub , school 2 Grocery shops ,Off licence,Doctors .

High street going down , CoOp Grocery store , Raido and electric , Ladys and gents outfitters shoe’s, Mr Joans Grocery store. Barbers Doctors , Luckets and Jeque’s shops 2 furniture an workshops , Warrens hardware store and Service garage , Lygon public bar and yard garage ,. HH Colin's Butchers with slaughterhouse , Grocery store , Chemist . Gordon Russel's offices , Electric repair shop , Bakers sweet and cakes and news papers shop . a Garage petrol , TV and radio shop , Grocery and veg store , Public toilets , litlle haberdashery sewing shop. a service and petrol garage down on the Cheltenham road , football club and council rubbish dump , Bakers.

High street going up from the green gas office and shop ,gents outfitters , caff, ladys lingerie shop, petrol garage , vets , post office , butchers bank , snooker hall , toy and jewelers watch repair, sweet shop , News agents and gifts, bank. little veg shop .RSPCA office an teas.

Andy Rose’s updated list of what the village has lost to progress

Stewart's / Birchway Builders Yard, Broadway Coaches, Gordon Russell's Factory Buildings including the Social Club, Smithy & Legally Protected Draughmans Building, Bookies, Scholl Shop just up from the Tea Room's of which there were 2 of, Lloyds Bank come RBL, Social Club School Canteen, Playground with Swings etc in, 20+ Garages before you got to the Canteen Gate, Wooden Youth Club which would Never have been Built original Site, curtesy of Jack Hanglen who did a great deal for the whole Village but was never awarded anything unlike some others, Garages behind the Primary School, Mr. & Mrs. David Ingles Farm that supplied Milk, Eggs, Bread and Pop to the whole of the Village, Tom's Farm that still stands Empty as it has done everything since the Bypass 2nd Route was chosen as the then Toffs didn't want it behind there properties, Shear House built for the Elderly with a Car Park for over 100 vehicles with a Toilet Block and a Council building behind, gone as yet again it was more lucrative to build homes on the Top End of the Car Park. Dunhelms in the High Street, part of the Builders Merchants in Leamington Rd, everything that was once good about the Village has been ripped out and for what reason, 2 Banks both Buildings have stood Empty for years and now they are on about updating the Lygon Arms, which is an historical Hotel, only because Oliver Cromwell stayed in One of the Room's for 1 night after the Battle of Evesham, it's like a tinder box waiting to go up. Florist further down, St.Patricks tea Room's & then made into a Shop that sold all sorts for the visitors, NHS Dentist gone but it's now Private Patients Only, Opticians, Cotswold Café, John Cole, who delivered the Coal and Spuds to locals just before Christmas, Toch H, and the Slaughter house, everything that made Broadway for the many Families who lived, worked, volunteered and died there wouldn't recognise the Village as it now stands, just a place for Tourism & for some about making a fast buck. No one has ever been told what happened to all that Money that was Donated for the Swimming Pool, which never got built. Probably went on the Lifford Hall & it's 1st revamp, then 15yrs later they needed money for a major build on it, selling off Roof Tiles to anyone that they could, even one person had a room named after him for all the hard work and time he put in, but those who came beforehand were never mentioned. Also the Telephone Exchange has gone and all those Allotments gone forever. As for the latest venture building on the old quarry down Station Road that had loads of stuff dumped in it from various camps etc, right next to a Heritage Site, they are going to need a great deal of Concrete just to keep these buildings up for how long remains to be seen, then finally the Roman Press that used to print local magazines etc, closed and just stood there. Yocker if I think of anything else that I've missed I'm sure that you will still have a few that haven't been mentioned, great shame that this is progress or so they say. Personally what goes around comes back around and bites back just like when Covid reheared it's ugly head and will keep mutating just like the Flu and common cold. Andy Rose an Yocker Yarnold

Nisa Local Broadway (Bibsworth Ave, Broadway)
A Personal Message from the Garcha Family:
An Update for Broadway Village
To our friends, neighbors, and the community of Broadway,
As the Garcha family, we have proudly operated this store for the past 18 years. We feel it is time to speak to the village directly to clear up the rumors currently circulating. You have been more than just customers; you have been a part of our daily lives, and we owe you the truth.
The Background
Our lease officially ended in the Spring of last year. Since then, we have worked tirelessly to negotiate a new agreement that would allow us to continue trading here with Nisa and the Co-op. Regrettably, despite our best efforts, we were unable to reach an agreement that would allow our family business to remain in the heart of this village.
A Special Tribute to Toni Barnett
We cannot speak about the history of this store without mentioning our manager. Toni has been with us since the very day we opened 18 years ago. She has done a stellar job managing the store with total dedication. To us, she is so much more than a colleague—she is truly a part of the Garcha family. We know many of you in Broadway will miss her friendly face as much as we will.
Regarding the Property
We are aware of the planning applications submitted by the landlord. While we initially hoped this wouldn't affect the store, the landlord may have other plans for the site. We want to be clear: We are unaware of what the future holds for this property or who may occupy it next. Our only certainty is that our time serving the village here is coming to an end.
An Essential Note for Our Customers
We understand that many in the village rely on us for daily needs. Our priority is to ensure that the "basics"—your milk, bread, and daily essentials—remain available right up until our final day. We are working closely with our suppliers to ensure the village has what it needs while our doors remain open.
Final Trading Update
We expect to continue trading for the remainder of January and perhaps a week or so into February. A final closing date will be posted here as soon as it is confirmed.
18 Years of Gratitude
Serving the Broadway community for nearly two decades has been an absolute honor. We are heartbroken to leave under these circumstances, but we want to spend our final weeks thanking you for the memories and support you’ve shown the Garcha family and Toni since 2007.
With love and gratitude,
The Garcha Family, Toni, & Team

This is the shop that all the fuss is about Co operative Group Nisa . was Mr Stanley's shop a100 years ago . Who Know’s who worked in Mr & Mrs Stanley’s shop in the 1950s and early 60s , I remember three lady’s who was they ?.
I can remember Mr Stanley /Bill and his wife ..
His shop was on the corner of Orchard avenue and Bibsworth Ave. ,it has had many names over the years now I think its owned by the Co operative Group Nisa ?.
I remember it as a tin shed with a wooden floor back in the 1950 s, and being extended over the years, also I remember my mum buying every thing by pounds and ounces Coffee Tea Sugar ,Bacon ,Ham ect ect all weighed in pounds and ounces, and sold in a brown bag ,also Bacon Ham and Cheese cut to how much you wanted and Sweets in Jars just pick how many you wanted .
Broadway back then was like Tesco’s is today every think you wanted was in the village I remember only two antique shops and one art gallery, the rest of the shops was for the villages needs, no need to go to Evesham or Cheltenham to shop,in fact there was some people who never left the village, every thing a town had was in the village, thinking back there was more grocery shops than antique shops ,Mr Stanley’s and Mrs Browns served the avenues , well remembered

Well it looks as if the Boxing day Hunts across the UK was supported by thousands, So its still supported and loved by many , right or wrong its judged by your personal values, cultural norms,
The North Cotswold Hounds have an illustrious history in Broadway. The present pack was founded in 1807. The earliest record of foxhunting in the North Cotswold's dates back to 1772. Love it or hate it its Village history and History is ours, you can't just keep the good bits . Selective Memory highlights the tendency to gloss over the details of history that some disapprove of or wish to rewrite it , Its no secret I'm a village lad with family going back long before before The present pack was founded in 1807, I was out with the hunt from five years old , I've known most of the Kennel staff formally called hunt servants who are responsible for the hounds feeding, caring for and exercising them.I grew up with them they are my friends and ill carry on with what I believed in from my childhood , The opinion of outsiders and city folk is of no importance to me .
Sat thinking how many of my village friends remember being recruited for Pheasant beating was a crucial part of a driven shoot where a team of beaters school children walks through woodland or cover crops, making noise clapping, shouting to flush hidden pheasants out into the open, directing them towards waiting guns we use to a get a silver half crown for this . I dont recall parents or public stopping use or protests as back then the villagers was all local and supportive of country life , some are still alive and want to see countryside culture survive

Maybe the end of Boxing day Hunt meets all over the UK ?. So what is this going to change apart from unseen consequences Make no mistake what this really means to village life
20,000 hounds will be destroyed in the UK, packs will simply be destroyed .
Thousands of rural jobs lost grooms, kennel staff, farriers, vets, feed suppliers, hauliers
Village economies will suffer pubs caff’s , local businesses hit hard.
Sadly a way of life erased by people who have never set foot in the countryside and probley never seen a fox
Urban politicians lecturing rural communities on morality while destroying livelihoods they don’t understand is not progress. If this were happening to any other minority culture, there’d be outrage.
But because it’s rural Britain, country and village culture, is slowly being destroyed .
