We are happy to announce that Tomasz Żółtak will lead a short course at the International Meeting of the Psychometric Society 2023, which will be held at the University of Maryland (Maryland, USA) on July 24-28. The course will be dedicated to collecting, transforming and analyzing paradata from survey research using the software solutions that are developed during the RStyles project.

We are pleased to announce that a new paper of our team: “Detecting Careless and Unmotivated Responders Using Cursor Movements in Web-Based Surveys” was published in the European Journal of Psychological Assessment (Hogrefe, IF =2.89). The article introduces a set of new response process indices based on cursor/mouse movement and speed to use in modelling careless/insufficient effort responding in web surveys. Our analyses show that these indices correlate well with classical careless responding indices, so they can be used in modelling this response bias. These results open new research paths in accounting for careless responding in computer-based surveys. The article’s preprint is available in an open-access repository.

Do you know that nearly 71% of do not know what is? 22% of respondents are familiar with ChatGPT but do not use it. Among its users, the main reason for using ChatGPT are leisure time and fun (5%), education and science (2%), and work-related issues (1%). The survey was conducted in February 2023, with a representative quota sample for the Polish population (aged 18 and older; N = 1010).

We are delighted to announce that on December 21, 2022, the Head of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw established Computational Social Science Department with Artur Pokropek as the head of the Department.

The goal of the Department is to develop and provide methods for the social sciences to analyze digital behavioral data using various analytical tools, e.g., ML, NLP, network analysis, and psychometrics.

Główne cele warsztatu: rozwinięcie umiejętności budowania/zarządzania prostymi ankietami online przy użyciu platformy LimeSurvey, konfigurowania ankiety LimeSurvey do zbierania log-data za pomocą apletu logDataLimeSurvey oraz użycia pakietu logLime R do wstępnego przetwarzania tych danych. Po warsztacie powinieneś być w stanie obliczyć wskaźniki procesu opisujące ruchy kursora, średni czas odpowiedzi, edycję odpowiedzi i najechanie, a także umieć zwizualizować ruchy kursora i kliknięcia za pomocą wstępnie przetworzonych danych.

Zespół RSTYLES to grupa badaczy skupionych wokół analizy stylów odpowiedzi w badaniach samoopisowych. Kolejna garść wyników z naszego badania! W ostatnich tygodniach obserwujemy lekki spadek obaw dotyczących eskalacji wojny w Ukrainie i przekształcenia tego konfliktu w wojnę światową/nuklearną lub wojnę na terytorium Polski.

Another handful of results from our study! In the last weeks, we have observed a slight decrease in concerns regarding escalating the war in Ukraine and turning this conflict into a world/nuclear war or a war on Polish territory.

W ostatnich tygodniach większość Polaków (60-70%) nie zgadzała się z prorosyjskimi uzasadnieniami dla wojny w Ukrainie. Ponadto, według danych ankietowych, nie zmienił się poziom nieufności wobec prorosyjskiej propagandy.

During the last weeks, most Poles (60-70%) disagreed with the pro-Russian justifications for the war in Ukraine . Also, according to survey data, the level of distrust toward pro-Russian propaganda did not change.

Jak wynika z naszych badań, w ostatnich tygodniach prawie 70% Polaków wypowiadało się o wojnie w Ukrainie, głównie podczas bezpośrednich rozmów z rodziną lub rówieśnikami. Jednak choć zainteresowanie wojną wciąż jest duże, to nieznacznie spadło.

According to our research, in the last weeks, almost 70% of Poles have spoken about war in Ukraine, mostly during direct conversations with family or acquaintance. However, although the interest in war is still high, it dropped slightly.
