Στο πλαίσιο της Κυπριακής Προεδρίας του Συμβουλίου της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΕΕ), ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών κ. Κωνσταντίνος Κόμπος, από κοινού με την Ύπατη Εκπρόσωπο της ΕΕ για θέματα Εξωτερικής Πολιτικής και Πολιτικής Ασφαλείας κα Kaja Kallas, προήδρευσαν σήμερα Πέμπτη, 28 Μαΐου 2026, της άτυπης συνάντησης των Υπουργών Εξωτερικών της ΕΕ (Gymnich), στη Λεμεσό.

Η ημερήσια διάταξη της άτυπης συνάντησης επικεντρώθηκε σε δύο θεματικές ενότητες: τις εξελίξεις στη Μέση Ανατολή και τη συνεχιζόμενη επιθετικότητα της Ρωσίας κατά της Ουκρανίας.

Κατά την πρώτη συνεδρία, οι Υπουργοί, με τη συμμετοχή του Υπουργού Εξωτερικών Υποθέσεων της Δημοκρατίας της Ινδίας κ. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, και του Υπουργού Εξωτερικών του Βασιλείου της Σαουδικής Αραβίας η Α.Υ. ο Πρίγκιπας Faisal bin Farhan al Saud, προέβησαν σε εις βάθος ανταλλαγή απόψεων για την κατάσταση στη Μέση Ανατολή και τις ευρύτερες περιφερειακές εξελίξεις. Η συζήτηση κάλυψε επίσης τον αντίκτυπο των τρεχουσών εξελίξεων στη θαλάσσια ασφάλεια, τη σημασία της προάσπισης του διεθνούς δικαίου και της ελευθερίας της ναυσιπλοΐας, καθώς και την ανάγκη ενίσχυσης της ανθεκτικότητας των αλυσίδων εφοδιασμού.

Κατά τη δεύτερη συνεδρία, οι Υπουργοί Εξωτερικών της ΕΕ αντάλλαξαν απόψεις αναφορικά με τη συνεχιζόμενη επιθετικότητα της Ρωσίας κατά της Ουκρανίας και τη στρατηγική τοποθέτηση της ΕΕ, περιλαμβανομένης της διατήρησης της δυναμικής στήριξης προς την Ουκρανία.

Το βράδυ της Τετάρτης, 27 Μαΐου, ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών κ. Κωνσταντίνος Κόμπος παρέθεσε δείπνο, στο οποίο παρέστησαν, επίσης, ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών της Ουκρανίας κ. Andrii Sybiha, ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών Υποθέσεων της Δημοκρατίας της Ινδίας κ. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar και η Α.Υ. ο Πρίγκιπας Faisal bin Farhan al Saud.

Στο πλαίσιο της άτυπης συνάντησης, ο κ. Κόμπος, δήλωσε: «Στο σημερινό γεωπολιτικό περιβάλλον, οι προκλήσεις που βρίσκονται ενώπιόν μας είναι σημαντικές.

Η σημερινή συνάντηση επαναβεβαίωσε ότι η ΕΕ παραμένει ενωμένη στην αποφασιστικότητά της να προστατεύσει τα συμφέροντά της, να προασπίσει τις αρχές της και να ενισχύσει τον ρόλο της ως αξιόπιστου γεωπολιτικού δρώντα.

Η Κύπρος θα συνεχίσει να εργάζεται προς αυτήν την κατεύθυνση, επιτυγχάνοντας απτά αποτελέσματα μέχρι και την τελευταία ημέρα της Προεδρίας μας».

Ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών κ. Κωνσταντίνος Κόμπος φιλοξενεί, το διήμερο 27 και 28 Μαΐου 2026, στη Λεμεσό, την Άτυπη σύνοδο των Υπουργών Εξωτερικών της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (Gymnich), την οποία θα συμπροεδρεύσει με την Ύπατη Εκπρόσωπο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΕΕ) για Θέματα Εξωτερικής Πολιτικής και Πολιτικής Ασφαλείας κα Kaja Kallas.

Στη συνάντηση έχουν προσκληθεί και θα παρευρεθούν επίσης οι Υπουργοί Εξωτερικών της Δημοκρατίας της Ινδίας κ. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar και του Βασιλείου της Σαουδικής Αραβίας, η Α.Υ. ο Πρίγκηπας Faisal Bin Farhan Bin Abdullah Al Saud.

Την Τετάρτη, 27 Μαΐου 2026, ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών θα παραθέσει δείπνο υποδοχής των Υπουργών Εξωτερικών, στο οποίο θα παρευρεθεί και ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών της Ουκρανίας κ. Andrii Sybiha.

Την Πέμπτη, 28 Μαΐου 2026, θα πραγματοποιηθεί η άτυπη συνάντηση Gymnich, στο Λιμάνι Λεμεσού. Κατά τη διάρκειά της, οι Υπουργοί Εξωτερικών αναμένεται να συζητήσουν τρέχοντα και περιφερειακά ζητήματα με τους δύο υψηλούς προσκεκλημένους από την Ινδία και τη Σαουδική Αραβία, ενώ, ακολούθως, θα συζητήσουν για τον πόλεμο στην Ουκρανία και τη συνεχιζόμενη ρωσική επιθετικότητα. Επίσης, θα συζητηθούν στρατηγικές πρωτοβουλίες σε θέματα ασφάλειας και άμυνας, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της προετοιμασίας της νέας Ευρωπαϊκής Στρατηγικής Ασφαλείας.

The Ambassador of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos P. Nicolaou, attended the 38th General Assembly of the Polish Chamber of Tourism, presided by Mr. Paweł Niewiadomski, President of the Polish Chamber of Tourism, and organized under the guidance of Secretary General, Mr. Paweł Radoliński, Warsaw, 15.5.2026.

Mr. Ireneusz Raś, Secretary of State at the Polish Ministry of Sports and Tourism, addressed the conference, with whom Ambassador Nicos P. Nicolaou had the opportunity to meet.

Cyprus has been a famous tourist destination among Polish visitors and continues to be popular also this year, with a 20% increase in tourist arrivals from Poland to Cyprus in the 1st quarter of 2026 in comparison with the 1st quarter of 2025.

On 7th May, students from Warsaw School of Economics visited the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Warsaw as part of the 15th edition of "Action Diplomacy" and met with the Members of the Staff of the Embassy and with the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos P. Nicolaou.

Ambassador briefed the participants about the current Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, relations between Cyprus and Poland, Cyprus' question related to the de facto division of the island as a result of the Turkish invasion in 1974 and the continuing occupation of more than 1/3 of the territory of Cyprus, as well as “diplomacy in practice” including the daily work of a diplomat.

The Ambassador of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos P. Nicolaou, attended the Polish Constitution Day celebrations, led by the President of Poland, Mr Karol Nawrocki, at the Royal Castle Square and later at the Presidential Palace, Warsaw, 03.05.2026.

This year marks the 235th anniversary of the 3 May Constitution - the first constitution in Europe and the second in the world, preceded by the American one by only four years.

Today, we celebrate a historic milestone for Cyprus and for the EU. 🇪🇺

22 years ago today, Cyprus joined the European family, together with 🇨🇿🇪🇪🇭🇺🇱🇻🇱🇹🇲🇹🇵🇱🇸🇰🇸🇮, as part of the largest single enlargement in EU history.

For Cypriots, 1 May 2004 was a promise of peace, prosperity, security, opportunity, and hope for reunification. As a small member state, standing at the EU’s southeasternmost frontier, and as a member state still under occupation, Cyprus knows what it means to place your future and security within the European family.

At the helm of the Council of the EU, Cyprus has placed enlargement at the heart of our Presidency, as the EU’s most powerful geopolitical tool. Working together with our enlargement partners and EU institutions to deliver tangible progress on accession negotiations.

Europe will be reunified, when all countries that share its values share its future. 💫
