In the framework of the visit of the Friends of the New Maritime Museum Antwerp to the Baltic States last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a network reception in Riga on Saturday.
It was a great opportunity to bring together this group from Flanders with our local network in Latvia.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for an engaging and convivial evening.

In het kader van het bezoek van de Vrienden van het Nieuw Maritiem Museum Antwerpen aan de Baltische Staten vorige week, hadden we het genoegen om zaterdag een netwerkmoment te organiseren in Riga.
Het was een mooie gelegenheid om deze groep uit Vlaanderen samen te brengen met ons lokale netwerk in Letland.
Dank aan iedereen die erbij was voor een boeiende en gezellige avond.

On the occasion of Flemish Community Day, we hosted a reception in Warsaw this afternoon together with our colleagues from Flanders Investment & Trade. In the beautiful setting of Restaurant Belvedere, we had the pleasure of bringing together members of the diplomatic and economic community, as well as friends of Flanders.
It was a truly wonderful afternoon, filled with meaningful encounters and great conversations.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us!

Z okazji Dnia Wspólnoty Flamandzkiej zorganizowaliśmy dziś po południu przyjęcie w Warszawie, wspólnie z naszymi kolegami z Flanders Investment & Trade. W pięknym otoczeniu restauracji Belvedere mieliśmy przyjemność zgromadzić przedstawicieli środowiska dyplomatycznego i gospodarczego, a także przyjaciół Flandrii.
Było to wyjątkowo udane popołudnie, pełne inspirujących spotkań i ciekawych rozmów.
Serdecznie dziękujemy wszystkim za obecność!

Ter gelegenheid van het Feest van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap organiseerden we deze middag samen met onze collega’s van Flanders Investment & Trade een receptie in Warschau. We hadden het genoegen om ons diplomatieke en economische netwerk, evenals vrienden van Vlaanderen, samen te brengen in de prachtige setting van Restaurant Belvedere.
We kijken terug op een bijzonder geslaagde namiddag, met boeiende ontmoetingen en waardevolle gesprekken.

Last week, during a visit to Łódź, we had the pleasure of meeting with Voivode Dorota Ryl and Deputy Marshal Agnieszka Ryś. Our discussions focused on the cooperation between Flanders and the Łódzkie Voivodeship, as well as new opportunities for future collaboration. We look forward to further strengthening these ties and building on our shared ambitions.

Vorige week spraken we tijdens een bezoek aan Łódź onder meer met Wojewode Dorota Rył en Deputy Marshal Agnieszka Ryś. We bespraken de samenwerking tussen Vlaanderen en het woiwodschap Łódzkie, evenals nieuwe kansen voor de toekomst. We kijken ernaar uit om deze samenwerking verder te verdiepen en onze gedeelde ambities waar te maken.

W ubiegłym tygodniu, podczas wizyty w Łodzi, mieliśmy przyjemność spotkać się m.in. z Wojewodą Dorotą Rył oraz Wicemarszałek Agnieszką Ryś. Rozmawialiśmy o współpracy między Flandrią a województwem łódzkim oraz o nowych możliwościach jej dalszego rozwoju. Cieszymy się na kontynuację tych kontaktów i dalsze wzmacnianie naszych wspólnych inicjatyw.

🏳️‍🌈 IDAHOT 2026 – Genuine democracy leaves no one behind

On 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), people around the world draw attention to the rights, dignity and safety of LGBTQI+ individuals. Through thousands of local initiatives, this collective engagement gives the day strong international visibility.

IDAHOT is both a moment of protest and of celebration: standing against discrimination and violence, while affirming sexual and gender diversity.

🔹 Democracy requires vigilance

With the slogan “At the heart of democracy”, IDAHOT 2026 highlights a simple truth: genuine democracy leaves no one behind. Even today, rights are under pressure. While Belgium ranks highly on ILGA‑Europe's Rainbow Index, signals from civil society organisations remind us that continued vigilance remains essential.

🤝 Commitment in Flanders and worldwide

The Flemish authorities support Pride initiatives that promote visibility and inclusion. They have also contributed to the Interfederal LGBTQI+ Action Plan.

Internationally, Flanders plays an active role through its Diplomatic Representations — from expressions of solidarity and Pride participation to policy dialogues, commemorations and contributions to international forums.

Our Representation proudly supported a twinning project between the Flemish municipality of Maldegem and the Polish municipality of Świdnica. Pupils from Primary School Mikołaj Kopernik in Pszenno, Basisschool De Driesprong from Maldegem, and their partner school SP nr 9 in Dzierżoniów took part in a remarkable European journey following the traces of World War II history.
They showed that meaningful history education goes far beyond textbooks – it grows through shared experiences, dialogue and the building of lasting international friendships.

Nasze Przedstawicielstwo z dumą wsparło projekt partnerski pomiędzy flamandzką gminą Maldegem a polską gminą Świdnica. Uczniowie Szkoły Podstawowej im. Mikołaja Kopernika w Pszennie, Basisschool De Driesprong z Maldegem oraz zaprzyjaźnionej Szkoły Podstawowej nr 9 w Dzierżoniowie odbyli niezwykłą europejską podróż śladami historii II wojny światowej.
Udowodnili, że prawdziwa edukacja historyczna nie kończy się na kartach podręczników, lecz rodzi się we wspólnym przeżywaniu historii, dialogu i budowaniu międzynarodowych relacji międzyludzkich.

Onze vertegenwoordiging ondersteunde met veel plezier een verbroederingsproject tussen de Vlaamse gemeente Maldegem en de Poolse gemeente Świdnica. Leerlingen van de Szkoła Podstawowa im. Mikołaja Kopernika in Pszennie, Basisschool De Driesprong uit Maldegem en de bevriende Szkoła Podstawowa nr. 9 in Dzierżoniów ondernamen samen een bijzondere Europese reis in het spoor van de geschiedenis van de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Ze toonden dat échte geschiedeniseducatie verder gaat dan de schoolbanken en vooral groeit door gedeelde ervaringen, dialoog en het opbouwen van internationale vriendschappen.

This morning, we had the pleasure of meeting with the Polish Rural Youth Union. We learned more about their activities, ongoing projects, and rich history. It was truly inspiring to engage with such motivated and enthusiastic young people. We look forward to further strengthening and expanding our cooperation in the future.

Dziś rano mieliśmy przyjemność spotkać się z Związek Młodzieży Wiejskiej Wici. Dowiedzieliśmy się więcej o ich działalności, realizowanych projektach oraz bogatej historii organizacji. To było bardzo inspirujące spotkanie z zaangażowaną i pełną entuzjazmu młodzieżą. Z niecierpliwością czekamy na dalsze zacieśnianie i rozwijanie naszej współpracy.

Vanmorgen hadden we het genoegen om kennis te maken met de Poolse Plattelandsjeugdunie. We kregen meer inzicht in hun activiteiten, lopende projecten en rijke geschiedenis. Het was bijzonder fijn om in gesprek te gaan met zulke gemotiveerde en enthousiaste jongeren. We kijken ernaar uit om onze samenwerking in de toekomst verder te verdiepen en uit te bouwen.

De Vlaamse Parlementaire Commissie voor Economie, Werk, Sociale Economie, Wetenschap en Innovatie bracht recent een bezoek aan Estland.
Het verkennen van het Estse bedrijfslandschap, de vergevorderde digitalisering van het land en de ondersteuning die de Esten geven aan bedrijven in AI en robotica waren de belangrijkste thema’s die aan bod kwamen.
Een bezoek aan het Estse parlement, het AI & Robotics Estonia consortium, de Aerospace en Defense Association, Taltech University, Milrem Robotics en E-Estonia zorgden voor heel wat inspiratie!

Exploring the Estonian business landscape, the country’s advanced digitalisation and the support the Estonians provide to companies in AI and robotics were the main topics discussed.

We had a good meeting with the University of Szczecin, where we were warmly received by Rector Waldemar Tarczyński. Our conversation focused on the opportunities and challenges currently facing the academic world.
We also discussed the existing ties between the University of Szczecin and Flemish universities and explored possibilities for further strengthening our cooperation.

Odbyliśmy dobre spotkanie z Uniwersytetem Szczecińskim, gdzie zostaliśmy przyjęci przez rektora Waldemara Tarczyńskiego. Rozmowa koncentrowała się na szansach i wyzwaniach, z jakimi mierzy się obecnie środowisko akademickie.
Poruszyliśmy również temat istniejącej współpracy pomiędzy Uniwersytetem Szczecińskim a uczelniami we Flandrii oraz omówiliśmy możliwości jej dalszego rozwoju.

We hadden een goede ontmoeting met de Universiteit van Szczecin, waar we werden ontvangen door rector Waldemar Tarczyński. Het gesprek ging over de kansen en uitdagingen waarmee de academische wereld vandaag geconfronteerd wordt.
Daarnaast stonden we stil bij de bestaande banden tussen de Universiteit van Szczecin en Vlaamse universiteiten en verkenden we mogelijkheden om deze samenwerking verder uit te bouwen.
