A privilege to be part of the signing of the Northolt Treaty, and even more special to do so under a Polish Hurricane aircraft. 🇬🇧 🇵🇱

The UK and Poland are long-standing allies, with a partnership rooted in shared history and forged on the battlefield - from the Second World War to today’s defence of NATO’s Eastern Flank.

This Treaty marks a step-change: a deeper, more structured partnership to strengthen deterrence, tackle hybrid threats, and boost defence cooperation worth billions of pounds - supporting jobs and NATO capability.

A significant step forward in UK–Poland defence cooperation.

Today’s signing of the Northolt Treaty reinforces a long-term partnership anchored in shared commitment to NATO’s Eastern Flank. It establishes a clear framework to deepen cooperation in response to a more complex threat environment, strengthening collective defence, countering hybrid and cyber activity, enhancing border security, and integrating effort across defence and wider security domains.

The agreement also accelerates military cooperation, enabling more joint training, exercises, and capability development, ensuring UK and Polish forces remain interoperable, ready, and able to respond together.

But this partnership is defined not by agreements alone. It is demonstrated daily, through forces training, integrating, and operating side by side.

Last week, we had the honour of visiting our Polish partners as part of a UK delegation, including the Deputy Defence Attaché to Poland and officers from the Joint CIMIC Group. 🇬🇧🇵🇱

A key element of the visit was strengthening cooperation with Polish — exchanging experiences, reviewing ongoing collaboration, and discussing opportunities for further joint training initiatives and projects. 🤝

The visit marked an important step in deepening UK–Poland defence ties, enhancing interoperability, and reinforcing our shared commitment to security and stability across Central and Eastern Europe. 💪

Cooperation with and the Polish Armed Forces remains a vital component of our partnership and a clear demonstration of Allied solidarity. 🇬🇧🇵🇱

81 years ago, on 18 May 1944, Allied forces broke through the Gustav Line at Monte Cassino – a turning point in the Italian campaign and a powerful symbol of determination, sacrifice, and international cooperation.

At the heart of that victory stood the Polish II Corps under General Władysław Anders. Fighting across some of the most difficult terrain in the Second World War, Polish soldiers advanced under relentless fire, ultimately raising the Polish flag over the ruins of the monastery. Their courage and resilience became an enduring part of Poland’s military legacy.

Monte Cassino also reminds us of the shared history between Poland and the United Kingdom. Polish forces fought alongside British and Allied troops throughout the Italian campaign, bound by a common purpose and a commitment to defeat tyranny in Europe. That partnership, forged in wartime, continues to underpin the close defence relationship we see today.

As we remember those who fought and fell at Monte Cassino, we honour not only their sacrifice, but also the values they defended – freedom, solidarity, and resolve in the face of adversity.

A significant step forward for the air defence programme.
A state of the art CAMM ER Production and Servicing Centre will be established in Zielonka, which through cooperation with MBDA 🇬🇧 will enable technology transfer, local component production, final assembly and testing, and delivery of missiles for the Polish Armed Forces.
This initiative strengthens Poland’s industrial capabilities and reflects the depth of long term UK Poland defence cooperation. 🛡️🚀
