😯Puerto Rican parrot rescued from a red-tailed boa in Maricao!
‼️The red-tailed boa (Boa constrictor constrictor) (an invasive species in Puerto Rico) has become a major threat to the Puerto Rican parrot. Raúl Correa, biologist of the Puerto Rican parrot project in Maricao, after alarming vocalizations from the parrots, who where all looking in the same direction, was able to quickly detect a chick trapped by a boa constrictor at the top of a bamboo. The biologist's immediate action of cutting the bamboo allowed the boa to release the juvenile parrot.
💚The survivor had been in the forest for barely 1 month, having flown from one of the wild nests during the recent breeding season. Once rescued, the parrot spent a day in the hospital facilities to ensure its well-being, and was released the next day. Maricao biologists have seen it flying through the forest again with its parents.
👏Thank you to the parrot team for their work focused on the recovery of our Puerto Rican parrot!
