Matthew Slade learned something very valuable about this entire pandemic the whole way through today.

In short, he wasn't even willing to and relax in the isolation from hectic everyday life, and that would include typical vacations, as well.
Just like unlike how Greg Heffley got to cozy up in a hotel room after his Boy Scouts camping trip was ruined by a rainstorm in The Last Straw—2020 had to "continue" no matter how bad or nasty things got all to begin with.
It's just like movie filming (and YOU know how much I ADORE Hollywood at large FYI)—it still had to continue no matter what, and it CERTAINLY still had to be on film; mind you.
2021, by the way, will CERTAINLY be absolutely no exception to that rule in particular.

I mean, leading up to the pandemic's full force, Matthew actually saw a bright future; a bright new beginning; the very moment where the 21st century would REALLY begin.
So, while the rest of us are "lamenting" over the "fact" that the pandemic might indeed become a "permanent" one—meaning the "new normal" people spoke of prior would INDEED become THE "new normal"—let us look at the bright side of things—most importantly of all, the immense technological advancements made so far this very fine decade.
For starters, we've gotten the "modern" flip phone—one with an ACTUAL folding screen, being a true smartphone with the incredible ability to "flip" flat and shut like a classic and traditional flip phone. Remember those "future technology" books we've all read at some point or another back in the 2000s or even (early) 2010s? Welp. We're FINALLY starting to see several of these new technologies predicted long ago come to be. Aren't you proud of yourselves for being optimistic about the future?
On top of this, have you actually heard about the advancements in outer space exploration and technology in very recent times? Something tells me that Gaia herself (of E.V.O., BTW) is all too happy and cathartic that man SHOULD be landing (and perhaps colonizing‼) on the Moon and Mars, and other such places, sometime soon this century. Oh, and I shouldn't even have to mention the Space Elevator. Sid Meier's Civilization IV may have even mentioned it once, or twice. (LOL. ^_-)

Despite everything, if Matthew Slade CAN indeed be happy and optimistic about the future, then I'm pret-ty darn sure the rest of y'all can—and probably will—too. Toodles‼
