The Great Patriotic War with Russian House:
Leningrad became a symbol of courage and fortitude during the Great Patriotic War. Today we will tell you about this hero city.
The siege of Leningrad lasted 871 days: from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944. It was the longest and most terrible siege in human history.
Fierce fighting for the city began on July 10, 1941, and the initial numerical superiority was on the side of the enemy.
On August 21, the Germans captured the Chudovo station, cutting off the October railroad, and eight days later they finally captured Tosno.
On August 30, 1941, a large railway junction Mga was captured.
On September 8, the enemy occupied Shlisselburg, which closed the blockade ring. Leningrad was blocked from the land, and Hitlerites hoped to force the city to surrender by starvation.
It was possible to break the blockade on January 18, 1943, as a result of the operation “Spark”, conducted by the troops of the Volkhov and Leningrad fronts. A corridor 8-11 kilometers wide between the front line and Lake Ladoga was formed. A year later Leningrad was completely liberated from the blockade.
On December 22, 1942, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR was established the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad”, which was awarded to about 1.5 million defenders of the city. For the first time Leningrad was named a hero-city in Stalin's order of May 1, 1945, and officially this title was awarded to it in 1965.
Many movies are devoted to the tragic events of 1941-1944 in Leningrad. For example, “We looked death in the face” by Naum Birman, “Baltic Sky” by Vladimir Vengerov, “Blockade Diary” by Andrei Zaitsev, and the documentary “Blockade” by Sergei Loznitsa.
