The Global Carbon Council (GCC), the Ministry of Planning and Budget of the Republic of Korea (MPB) and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have formalized a strategic trilateral partnership to support the development and operationalization of Korea’s emerging voluntary carbon market.

The cooperation positions GCC as the first international carbon standard recognized by a Korean government institution, bringing together government leadership, international carbon market expertise and Korea’s private sector to build the foundations for a credible and globally connected market.
Key areas of cooperation include:

🔹 DMRV and registry interoperability, including planned connectivity between Korea’s consolidated registry and GCC’s registry infrastructure.
🔹 Alignment with Article 6.2, ICAO’s CORSIA and the ICVCM Core Carbon Principles.
🔹 Carbon standards, methodologies and certification capacity.
🔹 Greater access for Korean mitigation outcomes to international carbon markets.
🔹 Capacity building for VVBs, DMRV experts and domestic certification institutions.
🔹 Expanded private-sector participation through the Korean VCM Alliance and Asia Alliance.

The partnership will also draw on GCC’s experience with DMRV-enabled carbon market systems, including the ASCENT Carbon Program Portal, as Korea moves toward practical market implementation.

3.1 billion square feet. 2,700+ projects. That’s how much of Qatar’s built environment now carries a GSAS green building rating.

2025 added around 200 new projects to that count, with 150+ receiving recognition for design and construction quality.

Projects like Vodafone’s HQ, The View Hospital, Lusail City, and Gewan Island.

The institutions behind it are the ones that shape Qatar’s physical infrastructure: Ashghal, Qatar Foundation, PHCC. When they commit to a standard, the market follows.

The biggest development this year: the GCC Standardization Organization officially adopted GSAS as GSO 3000:2025.

Capacity-building is already underway across KSA, Kuwait, Oman, and Algeria.
