Ever wondered what currency was being used during Vlad the Impaler's Wallachia? Well, it was called "Wallachian Ducat." The coins were minted by Vladislav II (1447-1448; 1448-1456), nephew of the greatest Wallachian prince Mircea the Old and descendant of the Danesti branch (from Mircea the Old's brother). During Vlad's first short reign (who was a descendant of the Draculesti branch as grand son of Mircea the Old) in 1448 and at the beginning of his second and main reign in 1456, this coin was in circulation in Wallachia! Some argue that Vlad also minted ducats but, as many other stories associated with him, experts have contradicting opinions. However, if he minted coins, his ducat that was researched looked the same as this one, which is now in DV personal collection.
