Speaking with Sabina Iosub / Antena 3, Ambassador Giles Portman reflected on Romania’s remarkable development over the past two decades and the increasingly close partnership between the UK and Romania.🇬🇧🤝🇷🇴

Having worked on Romania’s EU accession negotiations years ago, our Ambassador spoke about how Romania has grown into an influential and confident member of the European Union, with a stronger voice in Brussels and an increasingly important role across Europe.

He also highlighted the vital contribution of the Romanian diaspora in the UK, which continues to strengthen the ties between our countries.

Looking ahead, the Ambassador welcomed Romania’s expected accession to the , a significant milestone that will help make Romania an even more attractive destination for investment, innovation and economic growth.

Last week, 🇬🇧 British and 🇷🇴 Romanian military personnel stood side by side at the Heroes' Day Parade at Air Base 86 Borcea, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for their country. The ceremony took place at the base's newly built monument and marked the first time a NATO ally participated in a commemorative event at the base.

✈️RAF personnel currently deployed on NATO enhanced Air Policing missions in Romania were proud to stand alongside their Romanian counterparts for this important moment of remembrance.

📌The same spirit of partnership was reflected at the AFASES 2026 conference in Brașov, where our Defence Attaché, Cdr. Beth Kitchen, joined academics and defence specialists from more than 10 countries as a keynote speaker, contributing to discussions on the future of air force education, technology, and security.

From operational cooperation to academic engagement, these activities highlight the close and growing defence relationship between the United Kingdom and Romania, and our shared commitment to NATO’s collective security.🇬🇧🤝🇷🇴

Fantastic opportunities for Romanians once again to study in the UK.

Ambassador Giles Portman spoke to Antena 3CNN’s Sabina Iosub about the UK’s return to + from 2027 - opening new doors for students and adult learners across Europe.

The Ambassador also welcomed the role of Romanian Commissioner Roxana Mînzatu and the British Council in helping deliver these new opportunities.

Our embassy team was proud to participate today in the 12th edition of Race for the Cure Romania, organised by the Fundatia Renasterea - the largest international event dedicated to raising awareness and support for women’s health and the fight against breast and cervical cancer.

Congratulations to all participants, volunteers, and organisers for a meaningful and inspiring day of solidarity and community spirit.
