PHILIPPINES LEADS ASEAN COMMEMORATIVE ACTIVITIES IN BUCHAREST
The Embassy of the Philippines in Bucharest, as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Bucharest, led the commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia on Friday, 7 August 2026 at the Embassy of Indonesia in Bucharest.
The event opened with a flag raising ceremony attended by representatives of ASEAN Embassies and other diplomatic missions, the Romanian government, media, and the
private sector.
In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Romania Noel Servigon highlighted the recent
signing of the Instrument of Accession to the TAC by Romanian Education Minister Mihai
Dimian.
The Guest of Honor was Ms. Ileana Dinculescu, Acting Director General for Global Affairs of
the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her speech, she mentioned Romania’s growing
role as an ASEAN partner with the signing of the TAC. She added that Romania hopes to
become an ASEAN sectoral dialogue partner in education, which will open doors for
strengthened collaboration between the regional organization and Romania.
The ASEAN Heads of Missions and Director Dinculescu led the cake-cutting ceremony, and
the event concluded with a reception featuring dishes from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines,
Thailand and Viet Nam. The Philippine Embassy served kwek-kwek, okoy, pancit palabok,
halo-halo and San Miguel beer.
Each Embassy also had country exhibits showcasing tourism materials, display items, and
products. The Philippine Embassy’s exhibit featured tourism materials, textiles and
handicrafts, and various Philippine food products. In commemoration of Buwan ng Wika, The
Embassy also held a lucky draw where participants will either get a prize (Philippine snacks)
or a Filipino song/rhyme that they would need to read out loud in order to get a consolation
prize. END
