The Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci KM, together with his wife, Marialaura, attended the traditional Garden Party hosted by the Royal House of Romania on 10 May 2026 at Elisabeta Palace in Bucharest. This year’s celebration held particular significance, marking the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Romanian Royal House, a moment regarded as the beginning of the country’s modern constitutional and institutional development.

Dedicated to both Romania and the Republic of Moldova, the event brought together several thousand guests from across Romania and Moldova, including representatives of state institutions, the diplomatic corps, academia, civil society, and the business community.

Over the years, the Garden Party at Elisabeta Palace has become an important occasion for institutional dialogue and public engagement, reflecting values shared by the Royal House and the Sovereign Order of Malta: service, solidarity, and support for vulnerable communities. The longstanding relationship between the two institutions has been strengthened through humanitarian cooperation and continuous dialogue rooted in mutual respect and tradition. These close ties are also reflected in the conferment of the Pro Merito Melitensi decoration upon members of the Royal Family.

The Embassy’s participation in this important anniversary celebration once again underlined the enduring friendship between the Sovereign Order of Malta and the Romanian Royal House, as well as their shared commitment to promoting human dignity, social responsibility, and assistance to those most in need.

Today, 22 March 2026, the 32nd International Hospitallers’ Conference (IHC) concluded in Cologne, Germany, having brought together more than 100 leaders of Associations and Relief Organisations from across the Order of Malta worldwide.

The Order of Malta Romania was represented by three members of the Romanian Relief Corps (Serviciul de Ajutor Maltez în România/SAMR): Mr Mihály Dénes KM, Director General of SAMR and Hospitaller of the Romanian Association; Mr Ferenc Tischler KM, Secretary General of SAMR; and Ms Anca Simu, National Social Programmes Coordinator of SAMR.

The principal theme of this year’s Conference was 'resilience', defined as the capacity to prepare for, withstand, respond to, and recover from strategic shocks and disruptions, while ensuring the continuity of services. Through this lens, participants explored the close link between spirituality and humanitarian service, the defining elements of the Order’s mission and ethos.

Discussions focused on key areas of humanitarian intervention, including Ukraine, Lebanon, and Gaza, where the Order of Malta continues to support vulnerable populations through the provision of food, clothing, and psycho-social assistance. The Order of Malta Romania itself, particularly through SAMR, remains deeply and actively engaged in supporting humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

The Order of Malta Romania expresses its gratitude to this year's organisers, as well as to the Grand Master and the senior leadership of the Order, for a valuable and highly productive Conference. The Order of Malta Romania also expresses its gratitude to the Order of Malta Ireland, which will host the 33rd International Hospitallers’ Conference next year.

➡️ On 2 March 2026, the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Romania joined members of the diplomatic corps, civil authorities, and religious leaders in attending the traditional Iftar dinner hosted by the M***i of the Romanian Muslim Community, HE Murat Yusuf, marking the holy month of Ramadan.

In their addresses, the M***i, HE Yusuf; the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, HE Archbishop Giampiero Gloder; the President of the Chamber of Deputies, HE Sorin Grindeanu; the Minister for Religious Affairs, HE Ciprian Olinici; and other speakers emphasised the importance of tolerance, interethnic harmony, and interreligious dialogue.

Reflecting on the evening, the Ambassador of the Order to Romania, HE Roberto Musneci KM, stated, “The dramatic developments of the past four years, and the escalation across the Middle East and Gulf in recent days, invite reflection among all followers of the monotheistic faiths as we observe Lent, Purim, and Ramadan. It was heartening to see so many religious leaders gathered together, including our friends the M***i of the Romanian Muslim Community and the President of the Jewish Community, HE Silviu Vexler.”

The Ambassador added, “At a time of increasing polarisation, it was reassuring to hear the M***i speak in defence of Western values, the Apostolic Nuncio reaffirm respect for diversity without syncretism, and all speakers call for tolerance and genuine interreligious dialogue. It was also a pleasure to meet once again the Metropolitan Archbishop, HE Aurel Percă, and our Chief Chaplain, Father Gabriel Popa, as we prepare for Easter.”
