Since 1950, the Association of the United States Army has worked to support all aspects of national security while advancing the interests of America's Army and the men and women who serve. AUSA is a private, non-profit educational organization that supports America's Army - Active, National Guard, Reserve, Civilians, Retirees, Government Civilians, Wounded Warriors, Veterans, and family members.

AUSA has 125 chapters located worldwide. Made up entirely of volunteers, they provide recreational and educational opportunities to Soldiers and their families. Most importantly, they support our deployed Soldiers and families left behind. AUSA and its' chapters have contributed over $2,000,000 to awards, scholarships, and support of soldier and family programs. EDUCATION

Grassroots support for America's Army can only come when people know and understand the value of the Army to the nation. AUSA accomplishes this through its various chapters, our Institute of Land Warfare, Industry Affairs meetings & events, and our Government Affairs office. PROFESSIONAL BENEFITS

The First in Battle Chapter, Association of the United States Army, announces the departure of **1SG Andrew Miller**, who has concluded his service as Vice President of the Chapter. His professionalism, dedication, and steadfast support to Soldiers, Families, and the Bavaria military community have strengthened our mission and our outreach. We extend our sincere appreciation for his contributions and wish him continued success in all future endeavors.

Today, we are honored to welcome **United States Army Veteran Forrest DeMoss Jr. (Pictured and with Desiree Faehr our Chapter President)** as our new **Vice President, First in Battle Chapter**, and **Vice President for Community Partners**. Forrest brings a strong record of service, deep commitment to the military community, and a clear passion for strengthening partnerships across Grafenwöhr, Vilseck, Ansbach, and Hohenfels. His leadership will reinforce our chapter’s engagement efforts and expand our support to Soldiers, Families, and community organizations throughout the region.

FIRST IN BATTLE CHAPTER – USAG Bavaria Monthly Gathering Announcement

The First in Battle Chapter, Association of the United States Army, invites all Soldiers, Families, DA Civilians, Veterans, and Community Partners across USAG Bavaria to join our Monthly Gathering at Tower Barracks, Building 505, held on the first Thursday of every month from 1800–1900 hours.

These meetings strengthen communication, build community ties, and keep members informed on chapter initiatives, professional development opportunities, and upcoming events supporting readiness and quality of life across the Bavaria footprint.

The First in Battle Chapter, Association of the United States Army, proudly recognized 1SG Andrew Miller, Chapter Vice President and distinguished senior NCO, for his exemplary performance, steadfast professionalism, and outstanding volunteer service during a formal award ceremony held at **First in Battle Headquarters, Katterbach.

During the ceremony, CW3 (Ret.) Eddie Merfalen Guevara, Chapter President, presented 1SG Miller with the Certificate of Excellence and Outstanding Service, honoring both his military leadership and his exceptional contributions as a volunteer leader within the Ansbach military community.

Drawing directly from the certificate, 1SG Miller was commended for:

MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY & AAFES STORE OF THE YEAR PRESENTATION

Today, our community gathered in solemn remembrance to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States of America. As we marked the Semi‑quincentennial—250 Years of the United States of America**, we reflected on the legacy of courage and sacrifice that has safeguarded our Nation since its founding.

The ceremony featured the National Anthem, benedictions, Memorial Day remarks, the POW/MIA Missing Man Table, and a moving Wreath‑Laying Ceremony with Taps**, honoring all branches, including the United States Space Force.

A patriotic Memorial Day cake, symbolizing remembrance and unity, was shared with the community following the ceremony — a simple but meaningful gesture to honor those who served and never returned.

AAFES Exchange Store of the Year – 2026
During the ceremony, the First in Battle Chapter formally recognized the Ansbach Urlas Exchange as the **Army & Air Force Exchange Service Store of the Year – 2026**.
