International Day of Friendship
30 July 2021

Friendship is one of the most important and valuable things in our life.

In 2011, the 30th of July was declared the International Day of Friendship by the General Assembly
of the United Nations to celebrate friendship in many parts of the world.

This special day goes beyond connecting people and builds bridges among cultures and countries.
It also includes promoting a global commitment and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

One of the three pillars of Inner Wheel is Friendship.

Inaugural Message from
International Inner Wheel President Ebe Martines

Dear Friends,

Inner Wheel was officially born in 1924 – and its centennial anniversary is rapidly approaching – thanks to the initiative of a group of ladies who met at the Turkish Baths in Manchester and gave start to one of the most important volunteering Organisations in the world.

Since that inaugural date, IW has been tirelessly working in favour of needy human beings, mainly girls, young and old women.

The UN’s 4th World Conference on women held in Beijing, China, in 1995 has brought steps forward in some areas of women’s and girls’ lives but poverty, discrimination and violence are still strongly present in their lives.

The UN 2030 Agenda clearly states that gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls is the catalyst for the achievement of all sustainable development goals.
The Under Secretary General and UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka declared that “One half is an equal share and only equal is enough”.

Women helping women, then, is the orientation of my IIW’s Presidential Theme 2021-2022 “PINK FIRST”.

World friendshipday is every first sunday of august. In Corona times, friendship is even more valuable than before. The image shows worldwide friendship, regardless of skin color, religion, who or what you are. That is what Inner Wheel embraces: Personally connected, socially engaged and internationally involved.
Our national motto: with each other, for each other and for others.

Clubul Inner Wheel Danubius Giurgiu mulțumește membrilor sai, simpatizanților și celor care îl susțin financiar pentru implicare în nevoile comunității.
Deși anul acesta nu am mai putut organiza Balul Primăverii, prilej cu care se strângeau fonduri necesare susținerii proiectelor, Clubul a răspuns Apelului umanitar al Spitalului Județean de Urgenta Giurgiu și a donat, după cm urmează :
-10000 RON pentru echipamente de protecție
-14000 RON pentru achiziționarea unui monitor și a unui ECG
-12000 RON pentru achiziționarea unui sistem filtrare sterilizarea aerului cu prezenta umana.
Nu am uitat nici de seniorii din Centrul Mironesti, pentru care am donat 2000 RON pentru procurarea de alimente.
Cu ocazia Sfintelor Sarbatori Pascale, va dorim tuturor sanatate, liniste sufleteasca si multa bucurie. Fie ca lumina sarbatorilor sa va lumineze sufletele si casele! Totul va fi bine!

With my Theme of “Together we can” – I want you to join with me and show the world that, by being an Inner Wheel Member, together we can achieve our dreams and help others to achieve theirs, whilst enjoying friendships in our Clubs and with 110,000 other Members across the globe. Let us be proud of our heritage and what our founder Margarette Golding achieved for Inner Wheel in the early days. Nearly 100 years later, we have to continue to inspire other women to join Inner Wheel by being Innovative in our efforts in this ever changing world.

Let us prove that whatever the size of your Inner Wheel Club, or wherever you are in the world, together we can support each other in our projects, both in our own communities and internationally. Let us prove that 110,000 Inspirational and Innovative women in Inner Wheel together can achieve so much.

St Francis of Assisi once said “Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible”. On behalf of all those that you probably have never seen but have assisted by doing the impossible over the years, may I say a very big thank you to you all.

Let us reinforce how small the world is and how successful International Inner Wheel is in holding hands around the world whilst leaving footprints for others to follow.
