Proiectul lui Bogdan Matei pleacă de la ideea contactării prin email a celor mai importante muzee și galerii din lume pentru a le propune o expoziție personală, fără a trimite însă un portofoliu de lucrări. În afara numelui, mesajul nu oferă nicio informație despre expeditor. Acțiunea sa parodiază situațiile în care strategiile sunt mai importante decât creația. El imaginează posibilitatea absurdă în care, prin scurtcircuitare, un artist ar avea șanse reale să stârnească interes galeriilor aflate în vârful piramidei. Cine nu și-ar dori să expună la MoMA sau la Tate Modern? Matei a găsit soluția și este generos, o împarte cu toți colegii. Cei prezenți la eveniment pot reitera performance-ul său inițial, schimbând în textul prestabilit al mail-ului doar numele.
Condiția artistului emergent este o temă abordată de Bogdan Matei cu luciditate și ironie. Așteptările sunt nule, dar seducția hazardului este îndeajuns de puternică pentru a da curs unor porniri care sfidează regulile jocului. “Such a Lucky Day!” este un proiect inocent și subminativ în același timp. Reflectă cu amuzament și relaxare o realitate deloc amuzantă: starea de confuzie și trăirile contradictorii ale absolvenților în raport cu sistemul artei contemporane. Ce tip de frământări implică dorința și necesitatea de a te integra într-o lume care nu-ți aparține? Cum trebuie să relaționezi cu această rețea complicată și lipsită de transparență la început de drum?
Artistul ridică aceste semne de întrebare folosind ca mijloace de expresie obiectul și acțiunea participativă în care internetul are un rol determinat. Obiectul, un banner de mari dimensiuni pe care apare scris textul mail-ului, este realizat dintr-un cearșaf recuperat care face trimitere la sfera privată, la dimensiunea domestică a existenței. Drumul de la “De la mama la MoMA” (titlul dat de Bogdan Matei lucrării sale de licență) poate fi marcat în mod providențial de un click.
*Bogdan Matei este în al doilea an de master la Facultatea de Arte și Design din Timișoara. Începând cu 2016 a avut o constantă activitate expozițională. Printre cele mai importante participări ale sale se numără: “The Room” instalație realizată la sediul Fundației Triade, proiect colateral al Bienalei Art Encounters, 2017; “Working Title 2”, expoziție de grup, galeria MAGMA, Sfântu Gheorghe, 2018; “Seeing Time”, expoziție de grup, Kunsthalle Bega, Timișoara, 2019. Tot în 2019 a fost selectat din partea Facultății de Arte pentru participarea la Bienala de Artă Contemporană de la Mulhouse, Franța.

Bogdan Matei's project starts from the idea of contacting by email the most important museums and galleries in the world to propose a personal exhibition without sending a portfolio of works. Apart from the name, the message does not provide any information about the sender. His action parodies situations in which strategies are more important than art production. He imagines the absurd possibility in which by short-cutting an artist would have a real chance to arouse the interest of the top galleries. Who wouldn't want to exhibit at MoMA or Tate Modern? Bogdan Matei has found the solution and he is generous, he shares it with all his colleagues. Anyone attending the event can reiterate his performance, changing in the text of the email only the name.
The condition of the emerging artist is a theme approached by Bogdan Matei with lucidity and irony. There are zero expectations, but the seduction of chance is strong enough to trigger the actions that defy the rules of the game. “Such a Lucky Day!” it is an innocent and undermining project at the same time. It reflects with amusement and relaxation a not at all amusing reality: the state of confusion and the contradictory experiences of the graduates in relation to the system of contemporary art. What kind of turmoils involve the desire and the need to integrate into a world that does not belong to you? How does one deal with this complicated and non-transparent network at the beginning of the road?
The artist raises these question marks using as means of expression the object and the participative action in which the internet has a important role. The object, a large banner with the text of the email written on it is made from a recovered bed sheet. It is a reference to the private sphere, to the domestic dimension of existence. The road from "From mama to MoMA" (the title given by Bogdan Matei to his bachelor degree) can be providentially marked by a click.
*Bogdan Matei is in his second year of master studies at the Faculty of Arts and Design from Timișoara. Starting with 2016 he had a constant exhibition activity. DRAFT is a curatorial program based in Timișoara (Ro). It presents ongoing art projects, ideas and experiments. Conceptualization, research and analysis are the key points in identifying the appropriate format for the perspective presentation. Therefore, presenting ideas at their intermediate stage questions the vague boundaries between the creative process and the definitive work.The aim is to make a frame stop in an ongoing conceptual structure.
Interaction with the public becomes a generative premise and can have a determined role in increasing or changing the trajectory of the future project. We aim to create a context of contiguity and free discussion, in which the transmitter and receiver constantly change their roles.
