Celebration of the 80th Independence Day of India at the Consulate General of India, St. Petersburg

Consulate General of India, St. Petersburg, is pleased to announce the celebration of the 80th Independence Day of India on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at the Consulate premises (35 Ryleeva Street, St. Petersburg).

The celebrations will commence at 09:30 AM, with the Ceremonial Flag Hoisting at 10:00 Hrs, followed by the reading of the Hon'ble President of India's Address to the Nation and a cultural programme. The occasion will commemorate India's remarkable journey over eight decades of independence and provide an opportunity for members of the Indian community and friends of India to come together in a spirit of unity, patriotism, and celebration.

As part of the Independence Day celebrations marking this historic milestone, the Consulate will also organize a Bharat Ko Janiye (BKJ) Quiz on 6 August 2026 at 1600 Hrs at the Consulate premises, focusing on India's Independence Movement. The winners of the quiz will be felicitated during the Independence Day celebrations on 15 August 2026.

Entry to the event will be strictly on the basis of prior registration.

Interested participants are requested to register online through the Google Form available at:

The registration link will also be available on the Consulate's website from 6 August to 13 August 2026 (until 5:00 PM).

Each participant, including children, must be registered separately to facilitate entry and security arrangements.

Registered participants are requested to arrive well in advance of the Flag Hoisting Ceremony to complete the necessary security formalities and ensure timely entry into the Consulate premises.

As part of her visit to the Republic of Karelia, Ms. Neelam Rani, Consul General of India in St. Petersburg, met Mr. Alexander Lysenkovsky, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Karelia, on 22 July 2026 to explore new opportunities for India–Russia business cooperation.

The discussions focused on enhancing trade and investment in key sectors such as minerals, rare earth elements, timber, pulp and paper, natural stone, and technical textiles, while promoting tourism and regular B2B engagements between Indian and Russian businesses.

The Consul General reaffirmed the Consulate's commitment to facilitating business partnerships, supporting trade delegations, and strengthening bilateral economic ties.

As part of her visit to the Republic of Karelia, Ms. Neelam Rani, Consul General of India in St. Petersburg, met Mr. Anton Fokin, Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia, on 22 July 2026 to discuss new opportunities for economic cooperation.

The discussions highlighted the strong growth in bilateral trade, with India emerging as Karelia's second-largest foreign trade partner. Both sides explored expanding cooperation in forestry, mining, tourism, labour mobility, and business-to-business partnerships. The Consul General underlined the potential for organizing a business delegation from Karelia to India, highlighting various investment summits across India’s states including the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027 as a premier platform 78 for trade and investment.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the India–Karelia partnership across trade, tourism, education and cultural exchanges.

Ms. Neelam Rani, Consul General of India in St. Petersburg, visited Petrozavodsk State University in Karelia on 21 July 2026 and held productive discussions with the university leadership on strengthening India–Russia academic cooperation and ensuring the well-being, safety, and security of Indian students.

The discussions focused on expanding opportunities for Indian students across diverse academic disciplines, promoting the Government of India's scholarship programmes, and encouraging faculty participation in the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme.

Consul General also interacted with Indian students, listened to their concerns, and reaffirmed the Consulate's commitment to working closely with the university administration and local authorities to ensure their welfare and the timely resolution of issues.
