Today, The TVET Sub-Sector Working Group (TSSWG) 2026/27 Q1 Meeting bringing together key stakeholders to assess the sector’s performance and discuss priorities for advancing quality, relevant and responsive TVET in Rwanda.

In his opening remarks, DG RTB Paul Umukunzi emphasized that quality, relevance and strong partnerships must remain at the heart of Rwanda’s TVET transformation, calling for stronger coordination, accountability and industry engagement to translate investments into better training and improved outcomes for learners and the economy.

Today at Busasamana TSS, we inaugurated newly developed and rehabilitated modern infrastructure across six TVET schools, under the partnership between the Government of Rwanda and the Federal Republic of Germany, through the RTB-KfW Phase III TVET Project.

The inaugurated infrastructure includes student dormitories, dining facilities, classrooms, and workshops, aimed at providing improved learning and living environments for TVET students.

This ceremony also marked a significant step towards more inclusive access to skills development, with MINEDUC, RTB, and KfW signing an agreement to jointly implement the TVET Project.

The beneficiary schools are Busasamana TSS/Nyanza District, ES Kinazi TSS/Ruhango District, Father Ramon TSS/Kamonyi District, Karengera TSS/Nyamasheke District, St. Augustin Mibirizi TSS/Rusizi District, and ETO Gatumba TSS/Ngororero District.

Today, we welcomed Mauderli Ueli, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland in Rwanda, and Bieri Bernhard, SDC Programme Officer for the Great Lakes Region for an engagement on Rwanda’s TVET system, focusing on the progress, key achievements and future prospects of the Dual TVET Project, supported by Embassy of Switzerland in Rwanda.

The engagement highlighted how Dual TVET bridges the gap between training and the world of work by combining classroom learning with practical workplace experience. The delegation further explored the implementation of the model through a visit to Grand Legacy Hotel, one of the participating companies, where they held insightful discussions on its benefits for learners and the private sector.

As part of efforts to introduce Cybersecurity Skills at TVET level, today 24 TVET teachers completed a 10-day Training of Trainers delivered in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA), with support from the Government of Luxembourg.

The trained teachers will support the rollout of a new cybersecurity curriculum, which will be piloted in two TVET schools and reach 60 students.

If successful, the pilot could pave the way for Cybersecurity to become an additional TVET trade, helping Rwanda build a future-ready digital workforce.

Today, RTB Deputy Director General , Agaba Nassi Bisengo attended the opening of the 11th African Technology Challenge Competition at Weifang Vocational College in Shandong Province, China.

Hosted by AVIC Innovation, the competition brought together 76 African international students from seven countries, including Rwanda.

In her remarks, she emphasized the need for TVET to respond to technology advancements and labour-market needs and to strengthen Africa–China cooperation in skills development, technology transfer and industry collaboration.

Across its first 10 seasons, the Africa Tech Challenge has benefited more than 1,900 participants from 14 African countries.

Today, we concluded a series of stakeholder dialogues under the Awareness Campaign, bringing together over 1,200 participants from all districts, including TVET school Head Teachers, Deputy Head teachers, accountants, RTB staff and District Directors of Education.

Held from 18–25 August, the dialogues provided a platform to strengthen collaboration and address key areas including Dual TVET benefits, TVET quality improvement, management of training consumables, co-curricular activities in schools, institutional performance and accountability.

The campaign also provided an opportunity for the National Public Service Commission to emphasize the importance of effective performance management in strengthening institutional performance and accountability in TVET schools.

Today, we received medical equipment donated by UNFPA in Rwanda , with the support of the Embassy of Luxembourg in Rwanda, under the Programme, to strengthen the Kirehe TSS TVET Care Centre and its linked health facilities.

Established last year, the Programme is a national initiative by UNFPA and its partners that aims to boost adolescent and youth development by integrating primary healthcare, including sexual and reproductive health, mental health support, gender equality and life skills into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
