It all began with a simple question on a page๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ“ƒ

Some found 500 francs on the ground and wrote the most creative story about it. Others turned school holidays into a full business plan. Some tackled real community problems with big ideas. Others dropped wisdom about money that even adults needed to hear.

They wrote in English. In French. In Kinyarwanda. In braille. Some told their stories through sign language. And every single one of them showed up and showed out.

This is what Season 5 of the KPL Annual Writing Competition looked and felt like. ๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿ‘†

In today's KPL Writing Competition awarding ceremony, we were honored to receive the State Minister of Education in Rwanda.

In her remarks, the Minister stated that:
"By writing in English, French and Kinyarwanda, students are building confidence and finding their voices. They are learning how to express their ideas and how to share Rwanda's story with the world."

This year's theme, "Money Matters," challenged students from primary to advanced level to think critically about finance and investment. Over 5,600 submissions came in from 141 schools across all 30 districts, including students with disabilities writing in braille and sign language.

Season 5 closes with 36 young writers stepping into the spotlight across three languages.

Words of encouragement, pride, hope, and belief written to every young participant who dared to tell a story. To the children who participated in the Kigali Public Library Writing Competition: thank you for reminding us that imagination is powerful, voices matter, and the future of storytelling is bright.

โ€œA library is where you go to find answers.โ€

Thatโ€™s how Nancy Bright Ineza, one of this seasonโ€™s finalists, opened up. Then she went further.

She talked about how competitions push you to discover what youโ€™re truly capable of. How even small amounts of money, managed wisely, can create change in a community. And how the secret to growing as a writer isnโ€™t winning. Itโ€™s refusing to stop.

Thatโ€™s the mindset.

The Season 5 winners of the KPL Annual Writing Competition will be announced on Saturday, 29 May at Kigali Public Library.

It started with one rabbit.

Gad Mwizerwa Mucyo, a finalist from Educational Institute for Blind Children Kibeho, told us how he turned a single rabbit into a goat through patience, multiplication, and the kind of business sense most adults are still chasing. His father built the cage. He built the strategy.

His advice to kids his age? Donโ€™t waste it. Save it. Invest it.

Money Matters. So do their stories.
