Embassy of Sweden in Kigali Welcome to the Embassy of Sweden in Kigali! The main task of the Embassy is to implement the Swedish development cooperation programme with Rwanda.

In addition the Embassy also conducts political analysis and engages in political dialogue. Moreover, we provide consular services to Swedish citizens visiting or living in Rwanda. Schengen visa applications are not handled by the Swedish Embassy but by the Belgian Embassy in Kigali.

Onsdagen den 26 augusti 16.00 - 20.00
Fredagen den 28 augusti 09.00 - 14.00

Det här behöver du ha med dig:
Du ska kunna visa vem du är. Du kan identifiera dig på olika sätt:
• med id-handling, tex id kort, körkort, pass.
• genom att du är känd för röstmottagaren
• genom att en annan person som har fyllt 18 år intygar vem du är. Personen måste då visa en id-handling.

Du måste inte ta med ditt röstkort för att rösta. Men det kan vara praktiskt, då det visar i vilka val du får rösta i och vilket valdistrikt och vallokal du tillhör.

This week, the Embassy bid farewell to our outgoing Ambassador Dag Sjöögren🇸🇪

After two years in Rwanda, Ambassador Dag reflects: ”I’m leaving Rwanda with a deep sense of gratitude, it is a remarkable country and a valued partner to Sweden, allowing for fruitful discussions and cooperation.”🇸🇪🤝🇷🇼

Yesterday, the Embassy had the great pleasure of hosting a send-off fika session for this year’s recipients of the Swedish Institute’s Svenska institutet Scholarships 🎓

This group of Rwandan students will pursue their master’s degrees at different universities across Sweden, from Umeå in the north to Alnarp in the south🇸🇪

Ambassador Dag Sjöögren and colleagues, together with the Sweden Alumni Network in Rwanda, were pleased to meet the students, exchange perspectives, and answer questions ahead of their departure. Sweden may be a lot colder then Musanze, but Swedes love fika and Rwandan coffee☕️🤝

The Embassy wishes all the students the very best in their studies🌟 We are proud of these future ambassadors of the strong Sweden-Rwanda relations🇷🇼🇸🇪

Sweden has a new development assistance strategy to Rwanda 🇷🇼🇸🇪

The Swedish government has decided on a new strategy that will guide the development assistance to Rwanda from 2026-2031. It highlights Sweden’s continued commitment to the partnership between Sweden and Rwanda.

It aims to support the development of Rwanda though:
• Improved livelihoods though digitalization.
• Strengthening democratic development, with increased respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
•Accelerating green transition that promotes sustainable growth.

The Embassy of Sweden recently had the great pleasure of welcoming Sweden’s first astronaut Prof Christer Fuglesang to Kigali 👨🏼‍🚀🚀

Both children and adults had the opportunity to ask Christer all questions we could think of, and he answered them all insightfully and patiently.

”Why should we even care about space?”, someone asked. Christer could easily elaborate on how knowledge from space research provides insights in areas as diverse as climate change, digitalization and cancer treatment. We all learned a lot.

Christer also met with people from Rwanda’s health sector.

Between 2-4 June, the University of Rwanda University Of Rwanda , Team Europe MAV+ and Sida-Styrelsen för internationellt utvecklingssamarbete hosted the workshop ”MAV+ Rwanda: IP training for the health sector” in Kigali🇷🇼🇸🇪🇪🇺

The training brought together PhD and post-doctoral researchers, supported through MAV+, alongside professionals from national institutions, universities, and companies in Rwanda strengthening connections across the country’s innovation ecosystem🌟

The initiative is part of MAV+, a 2 billion € investment under the EU strategy. Together, partners are not only supporting manufacturing capacity, but building the full innovation ecosystem needed to make it sustainable -with a shared ambition to position Rwanda as a regional hub🇷🇼💉

Through partnerships with the University Of Rwanda and Swedish universities, Sweden supports training and research in vaccine development and manufacturing, including upgrades to clinical trial sites. Today, this collaboration connects 19 PhD students, 3 postdoctoral researchers, and 100 master’s students, working across borders. The impact will be substantial👏

Capacity building in intellectual property rights (IPR) is a key part of this effort, helping researchers turn innovation into real world impact🌍
