Last week, our scholar Gina Oroi attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace - an unforgettable experience at the heart of the UK ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

As Gina shared, it was โ€œan opportunity to meet new people, especially young individuals who share the same values and aspirations as changemakers.โ€

Through exclusive events like these, Chevening scholars build global networks, exchange ideas, and strengthen the skills needed to drive meaningful change back home ๐Ÿค

Last week the Women Deliver Conference in Melbourne, Australia, brought together global leaders, advocates and partners to accelerate progress on gender equality, womenโ€™s rights and inclusive development.

The UK is proud to champion the voices of women and girls by partnering with Seif Ples to support their work against gender-based violence, rights, womenโ€™s leadership, education, economic empowerment, and climate resilience.

Here's our delegate to last week's conference, Pauline Fakaia, reflecting on the lessons learned.

New UK funding will support communities across the Pacific, helping them prepare for extreme weather, protect vital ecosystems and build longโ€‘term resilience.

Pacific Island countries are already facing the impacts of rising sea levels, stronger storms and growing pressure on food, livelihoods and natural resources.

Working in partnership with Pacific governments, regional organisations and local communities, the UKโ€™s new support will focus on practical, locally led action that helps people anticipate climate shocks, respond more quickly when disasters strike, and recover faster.

Great to see the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company PCRIC providing a rapid payout of $500,000 to the Government of Solomon Islands to support the response to the disaster following Tropical Cyclone Maila. The UK is proud to be a contributor to PCRIC.

PCRIC is an insurance company incorporated in 2016, that provides disaster risk insurance products to Pacific Island Countries (PICs). This insurance is โ€œparametricโ€ which pays out based upon trigger events rather than assessments of damage. It is not designed to cover all losses a government faces, but does provide a rapid cash payout, acting as a form of budget support to the government to finance the immediate relief needs.

The UK (alongside Japan, USA, Canada, and Germany) funded the establishment of PCRIC and helps to subsidise the cost of the premiums that participating governments pay. In March 2025, the UK announced an additional contribution of ยฃ5.3 million.

Across the Indoโ€‘Pacific, weโ€™re working with our regional partners to turn global climate ambitions into local impact.

This , the UK recognises the importance of community-driven efforts in strengthening climate resilience, safeguarding ecosystems, and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

In Solomon Islands, we supported Pusiju community, Vella La Vella in Western Province with a mini-solar fisheries centre - a powerful step toward strengthening climateโ€‘resilient livelihoods in local communities.

This innovative initiative:
๐Ÿ”น Integrates clean solar energy with communityโ€‘led fishery practices
๐Ÿ”น Supports sustainable livelihoods and ocean stewardship
๐Ÿ”น Is funded through the UK Climate Adaptation for a Resilience Asia (CARA) programme
๐Ÿ”น Proudly implemented by WWFโ€‘Pacificโ€™s Solomon Islands team.
