First Cohort Signs Under MCT–YECSI Tourism Grant Initiative

Yesterday, the Ministry of Culture & Tourism, in partnership with the Young Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands (YECSI), officially began rolling out business grant support to its tourism members.

A total of 27 members forming the first cohort of recipients signed their grant agreements. The signing was witnessed by Director of Tourism Division Mr. Gregory Auta’a, YECSI Vice Chairlady Mrs. Esther Yates Pollard, and the successful recipients. Also present at the signing were the YECSI Secretariat and the Board Chair.

Director Auta’a congratulated all recipients and emphasized the importance of utilizing the funds for their intended purposes. He highlighted that supporting young entrepreneurs remains a key priority for the GNUT Government and the Ministry of Culture & Tourism.

Vice Chairlady Mrs. Pollard acknowledged the Solomon Islands Government, particularly the Ministry of Culture & Tourism, for this milestone support the first of its kind for YECSI. She also recognized past YECSI board members for their efforts in initiating this process. She congratulated all recipients and encouraged them to view this support as an added boost to their passion, stories, and dedication—helping them grow and transition into the formal business space.

The successful recipients are engaged in a wide range of sectors including accommodation (both small and large scale), food & beverage, entertainment, media, hospitality furniture, and more. These entrepreneurs represent provinces across the country from Choiseul, Western Province, Central Province, Isabel, Rennell & Bellona, Makira, Malaita, and beyond showcasing the diversity and strength of local tourism initiatives.

Among those who signed, two YECSI members from Western Province Ocean View and Titiuru Eco Lodge also received and signed for a relief support package to assist with damages caused by Cyclone Maila.

This funding support is for the 2025 cycle, with the rollout taking place in the first quarter of this year following last year’s awards.

The second cohort of recipients is scheduled to sign their agreements this Thursday.
