The European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/ Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas had a constructive meeting with Solomon Islands' Foreign Minister, Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka in Brussels.
They discussed regional and global challenges, reaffirming the commitment to a strong EU-Pacific partnership

On 4 February, the European Union and Solomon Islands held their Partnership Dialogue, the first under the new Samoa Agreement, which is the basis for cooperation between the EU and the Pacific.
In the margins of the Dialogue, Solomon Islands’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Peter Shanel Agovaka met High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas, as well as European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela.
Both sides confirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening their partnership, while upholding the paramount importance of the multilateral system and international law, including in addressing the consequences of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

The European Union (EU) has deployed a humanitarian team to Vanuatu to assist the aid efforts following the devastating twin cyclones that tore through the Pacific island nation in early March. Most of the country's about 330,000 people are impacted by the disasters.

The EU team and its partner ADRA International traveled to remote communities outside Vanuatu's capital, Port Vila, in the weekend, to assess and support over 40 families in desperate need of shelter, food and water. 🇪🇺🇻🇺

SOLOMON Islands has received $78 million ($8 million Euro) from the European Union to improve water and sanitary conditions in schools and communities throughout the country.

The funding is also to strengthen the service delivery capabilities of provincial governments as prescribed in the major components of the project.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) will implement the projects.

Solomon Islands Minister of National Planning and Development Coordination, Rexon Ramofafia has congratulated the European Union for its $78 million funding assistance to Solomon Islands.

The funding aims at strengthening the governance system for service delivery within the provinces, notably by improving the coordination between Provincial Governments and the provincial sector offices for education and health.

The European Union 🇪🇺 Ambassador for the Pacific, His Excellency Sujiro Seam is in Vanuatu 🇻🇺 this week. On 3 August he met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu, Honourable Bob Loughman.

Vanuatu and the European Union share a rich history and friendship. The meeting, which took place in Port Villa, allowed both sides to discuss matters of mutual interest and highlight various interests shared between the European Union and Vanuatu, such as and development, and the strengthening of diplomatic dialogue that has been affected by the pandemic.
