Solomon Islands is sending a national contingent of about 160 to the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture in Papua New Guinea. The festival takes place from 28th June to 11th July 2014. Solomon Islands Contingent is expected to leave on a Chartered Solomon Airlines flight on the 26th of June and return on the 12th July 2014. The contingent of 160 includes officials and cultural practitioners.

Are'are hosts their inaugural Cultural Festival early this year at Maniaha village, East Are'are, Malaital Province. This is an initiative from the Cultural Division of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture as part of a major shift in the division's plans to promote the many ethnic cultures of the culture. Similar Festivals will be organized for other ethnic cultures in the country every two years. Photos by Mr. Benedict Horuna, Culture Division.
