What a jazz day!

Jazz hit all the right notes today as young performing arts enthusiasts tuned into the history and soul of this uniquely American art form.

Celebrating International Jazz Day on April 30, participants explored jazz’s roots in the United States, its evolution across generations, and its power to connect cultures and communities.

The room came alive with singing and dancing as students eagerly tried out different instruments, even stepping up to perform songs of their own and adding their voices to the vibrant atmosphere.

Local band Fabjazz kept the rhythm going with an engaging session on jazz history, instruments, styles, and performers, giving youth a closer look at the genre’s rich musical language.

Organized through the Affiliate American Youth Leadership Space as part of activities marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, the event showed that jazz still swings across borders, bringing people together one beat at a time. 🎷

U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Beth Creason recently connected with an inspiring group of Seychelles alumni from U.S. exchange programs, including the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and the Mandela Washington Fellowship.

🇺🇸🌍 The gathering also welcomed the next cohort of IVLP participants as they prepare for their upcoming journey to the United States.

The atmosphere was vibrant, with alumni enthusiastically sharing their experiences and reflecting on how these opportunities have shaped their personal and professional paths. ✨

It was especially powerful to hear how they are putting their knowledge into action, leveraging their skills, networks, and fresh perspectives to drive meaningful change in communities across Seychelles. 🤝

We asked Fulbright Alum Jean-Philip Banane what it truly means to be part of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program. Here is what he shared:

“Being selected as a Fulbright Scholar to pursue my Master’s in Public and International Affairs in the United States was one of the most transformative chapters of my life.

For two years, I was challenged academically, pushed beyond my comfort zone, and immersed in conversations that reshaped how I see the world.

At the University of Pittsburgh, I engaged with brilliant minds from across continents, examining security, intelligence, human rights, and international development through a truly global lens.

Beyond the classroom, internships in Washington, DC gave me firsthand exposure to the realities of policymaking and diplomacy. It was where theory met practice and where my commitment to foreign service deepened in meaningful ways.

Fulbright is more than a scholarship. It is cultural diplomacy in action. It is dialogue, mutual understanding, and the responsibility to represent your country while learning from others. The experience continues to shape how I approach international cooperation and global governance.

I remain grateful for the friendships, the exchange of ideas, and the lifelong network of leaders committed to making a difference.”

— Jean-Philip Banane, Fulbright Alum

Yesterday morning, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Adham Loutfi joined partners from the Government of Seychelles, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and key national agencies to open the Workshop on Developing a National Asset Forfeiture Strategy in Victoria, Seychelles.

The workshop, supported by the U.S. government through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), brings together representatives from the Anti-Corruption Commission, Financial Intelligence Unit, and other agencies to advance Seychelles’ efforts to combat corruption and recover illicit assets.

In his opening remarks, Chargé d’Affaires Loutfi commended Seychelles’ progress, including recent reforms and the establishment of the country’s first Asset Management Unit. He emphasized the importance of this work, stating:

“This is not just a technical exercise. It is fundamental to the rule of law, to economic development, and to the trust citizens place in their institutions.”

The United States is proud to support Seychelles as it develops a comprehensive and inclusive asset forfeiture strategy. By strengthening asset recovery frameworks and international cooperation, Seychelles is sending a clear message: crime doesn’t pay, and stolen assets will be recovered.

We look forward to the outcomes of this workshop and to continued partnership in building a more transparent and accountable system for asset recovery in Seychelles and beyond.
