Anti-Corruption Commission of Seychelles Mourns the Passing of Deputy Commissioner, Denis Joubert.

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the Anti-Corruption Commission of Seychelles (ACCS) confirms the passing of our esteemed Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Denis Joubert.

Denis Joubert was not just a leader within the ACCS; he was a tireless advocate for integrity and justice in Seychelles. His commitment to the Commission and the nation was unparalleled. Denis worked diligently to strengthen the ACCS, particularly in the areas of prevention and education regarding corruption, ensuring that future generations understand the importance of honesty and transparency in public service.

Before his tenure with the ACCS, Denis was a dedicated school teacher, shaping young minds with the same passion and integrity that later defined his work with the Commission. His legacy is one of unwavering dedication to the betterment of our society, both through his educational endeavours and his relentless fight against corruption.

Denis will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him. His loss is not only a profound one for the ACCS but also for the entire nation of Seychelles.

Funeral details will be announced in due course. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers are with Denis’s wife, Mary-Joe, his son Daryl, and extended family, along with countless friends and colleagues who mourn his loss.

May his soul rest in peace.

May De Silva
Commissioner

Daring to speak up when one witnesses corruption or wrong-doing often comes at great personal risk.

Protecting these "courageous communicators of truth" to provide them with a safer and more supportive environment is a moral imperative, not just a legal obligation Seychelles Attorney General Frank Ally reminded stakeholders brought together at a workshop organised by Anti-Corruption Commission Seychelles at Bois de Rose on 6 and 7 August 2024 as they prepared to discuss the first draft of a public interest disclosure Bill.
The task in hand, moderated by a technical team from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), is to build in the necessary safeguards in legislation to both empower and protect whistle blowers and ensure the legislation is robust, effective, properly financed and implementable.
Developed following approval by the President and the Cabinet of Ministers by the AG's Office together with support from the ACCS, UNODC and Transparency Initiative Seychelles, the Bill has potential to significantly enhance transparency, governance and accountability in Seychelles.
