The National Assembly of Seychelles The National Assembly of Seychelles is the legislative branch of Government.

The current National Assembly is the 7th Assembly elected since the introduction of the Third Republic in 1993. The National Assembly holds the Government to account, debates, amends and passes laws. The Members of the National Assembly debate on issues and expose the concerns of their districts, which can also be done through Select Committees. Article 85 of the Constitution provides for the vest

From the 20th to the 22nd of May 2026, a delegation of the National Assembly of Seychelles led by Hon. Philip Monthy, convened in Antananarivo, Madagascar for the Plenary Meeting of ‘l’Association des Parlements des Etat members de la COI’ (AP-COI) and a thematic seminar on the challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Governance.

Hon. Monthy acknowledged the work of the PRJIO since their 2025 launching in Seychelles, recognising that the perspective of youth on the challenges of the region is imperative to finding collective solutions to regional issues. Further discussions between the PRJIO cohort and AP-COI Members centred on the advocacy of the PRJIO resolutions by the AP-COI members in their respective parliaments and the challenges of fluid and seamless communication between the COI bodies.

As a first-time delegate of the AP-COI, Hon. Balisa-Lepathy highlighted the valuable insights gained and the fostering of deeper understanding of regional collaboration garnered by the association. She stated, “It was a truly rewarding experience that marked an important step in my journey as a member”.

The Parlement Régional des Jeunes de l’Indianocéanie (PRJIO) held its third Plenary Session in Madagascar from 18th to 20th May 2026, bringing together its young members from the Indian Ocean region for three days of exchanges, consultations, thematic discussions, and resolution drafting. Representing Seychelles at the session were members of the Seychelles PRJIO group, namely Ms. Camilla Cupidon, Mr. Fredo Dubel, Ms. Elgin Crea and Mr. Fabien Jeanne.

Members discussed the Indian Ocean Commission governance and regional priorities, engaged with civil society, NGOs, and youth stakeholders, and adopted resolutions at Madagascar’s National Assembly. The session also explored AI’s growing role in strengthening parliamentary work.

On the morning of Saturday 23rd May 2026, the National Assembly of Seychelles, in collaboration with the High Commission of India to Seychelles, hosted a yoga session on the National Assembly precinct in commemoration of International Yoga Day, which is celebrated annually on 21st June.

The activity formed part of a broader initiative by the High Commission of India to promote the importance and benefits of yoga across Seychelles. The High Commission has been engaging with schools and various entities to raise awareness on yoga as a practice that supports physical health, mental well-being, and cultural exchange.

The National Assembly of Seychelles participated in a regional workshop on Methane and Climate Action from the 15th to the 18th of May 2026, hosted in Nairobi, Kenya. The event was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in partnership with the Climate Parliament and UNIDO - United Nations Industrial Development Organization with support of the Green Climate as part of the Parliamentarians for Climate Finance (PCF) project.

Seychelles was represented by the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Steering Committee for the PCF project, Hon. Cecile Larsen, Committee Member, Hon. Francois Adelaide, and Committee Clerk to the Committee on Environment, Fisheries and Tourism (CEFT), Ms. Samia Lebon.

The sessions provided practical frameworks and real-world examples for integrating methane abatement into legislation, budgeting, and parliamentary oversight mechanisms. The workshop also reinforced the critical role of parliamentarians in advancing climate action, climate-resilient development, strengthening accountability, and promoting inclusive growth.

From the 7th to 15th of May, a delegation from the National Assembly of Seychelles participated in the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States African Region Parliamentary Group (OACPS ARPG) and the Africa-EU Parliamentary Assembly in Ezulwini, Eswatini. The delegation was led by Honourable Churchill Gill and comprised of Honourable John Hoareau and the parliamentary services' ACP EU Desk Officer, Ms. Haley Payet.

During the Africa–EU Parliamentary Assembly, the delegation contributed to key debates on peace and security, as well as mobility and youth education. The meetings concluded with the successful adoption of recommendations to guide future collaboration, with Seychelles playing an active role in shaping outcomes.

The National Assembly of Seychelles was represented by Hon. Sathya Naidu at the Regional Parliamentary Dialogue on Political Party and Campaign Financing Transparency of the Africa Young Parliamentarians Network (AYPN) Strategic Plan, held in Cape Town, South Africa from 4th to 7th May 2026.

The dialogue brought together young Parliamentarians from across Africa to discuss electoral reform, campaign finance transparency, anti-corruption efforts, and the importance of greater youth participation in governance.

On Wednesday 20th May 2026, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to Seychelles H.E. Mr. Alessandro Azaïs Tatistcheff, paid a Courtesy Call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Azarel Ernesta.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the longstanding relations between Seychelles and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, including its contributions in the health sector, as well as areas for future engagement.
