"60% of global species extinctions are linked to invasive alien species and 90% of those happen on islands."

To combat this threat, SIF hosted a biosecurity workshop in observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity! Bringing together the Seychelles Defence Forces and key environmental partners, the workshop focused on "Acting Locally for Global Impact."

Participants dived into the connection of public health, agriculture, and island conservation, outlining common pathways for pests and pathogens (like vessels, cargo, and footwear). The day was wrapped up with a few demonstration on how biosecurity checks are done.

"For island nations such as Seychelles, our ecosystems are among our greatest treasures, but they are also among the most vulnerable"
