🔵Taking Pride in Our Port!🇸🇨

Today, staff mainly based at the SFA Headquarters, joined colleagues from the Port Management and Facilities, Aquaculture and Property departments in a clean-up activity at the Fishing Port at Providence as part of the National Pride Cleaning Up Campaign 2026.

The activity included painting curbs, weeding around the compound, grass cutting, general cleaning, rubbish removal, and cleaning ditches to help improve the overall environment and appearance of the fishing port area.

The National Pride Cleaning Up Campaign 2026 forms part of the National Day Celebrations 2026 activities and is being coordinated by the Landscape and Waste Management Agency (LWMA), in collaboration with the National Day Committee.

This national initiative aims to promote civic responsibility, strengthen environmental awareness, improve the cleanliness and appearance of our surroundings, and foster a stronger sense of national pride and collective responsibility among all citizens.

In support of this important initiative, SFA selected the Providence Fishing Port area as its focus for today’s activity, reaffirming our commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all users of the port.

Together, we can build a cleaner and prouder Seychelles. 🇸🇨

🔵Today, Seychelles Fisheries Authority participated in the English River Secondary School Career Fair, a pivotal event designed to help students navigate their career paths and explore future opportunities. Representing the authority were dedicated staff from three departments: Human Resources, Fisheries Resources Management, and Aquaculture.

The fair served as a dynamic platform for these professionals to engage with students face-to-face, offering insights into the variety of career options available within the fisheries sector. Attendees learned about various roles, from management of different fisheries to aquaculture processing, showcasing how the sector contributes to both the economy and sustainability.

Throughout the event, the SFA team actively encouraged students to ask questions, share their interests, and consider how they could contribute to the fishing industry.

The interaction was not just about providing information; it was about inspiring the next generation to envision themselves within this vital industry.

The SFA staff felt a profound sense of fulfillment as they engaged with the students, fostering enthusiasm and encouraging them to explore the numerous rewarding career paths in a sector that is crucial to the preservation of marine life and community livelihoods.

The event proved to be both informative and motivational, leaving a lasting impact on the students as they contemplated their futures.

🔵A delegation of six representatives from Shanghai Ocean University visited the aquaculture facilities at Providence yesterday afternoon as part of an official mission to Seychelles aimed at strengthening cooperation in marine and fisheries development.

The delegation was led by Vice President, Professor Dr. Jiang Min, and the visit provided an opportunity to explore potential areas for future collaboration and innovation in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

During the tour of the aquaculture facilities, members of the delegation were introduced to the different species currently being cultivated and gained valuable insight into Seychelles’ growing aquaculture industry and ongoing development initiatives.

Prior to the visit, Shanghai Ocean University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and the Blue Economy aimed at strengthening cooperation in fisheries science, aquaculture, ocean governance, marine technology, and capacity building.

During the signing ceremony, the Seychelles Fisheries Authority delivered a presentation highlighting its mandate and ongoing work in fisheries management, monitoring and control, scientific research, aquaculture development, and sustainable fisheries practices in Seychelles.

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between the Ministry, the University, and SFA based on equality, reciprocity, and mutual benefit. Areas of collaboration include academic and professional exchanges, joint research and development initiatives, capacity-building and training programmes, participation in seminars and workshops, as well as the exchange of scientific information and academic materials.

The agreement will remain in effect for a period of five years and includes mechanisms to monitor and evaluate collaborative activities undertaken under the partnership.

🐟✨ A Glimpse of the Tuna Day Educational Parade 2026 ✨🐟

Last Friday, 08th May 2026, the streets of Victoria came alive with colour, creativity, and excitement as the Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA) hosted its Tuna Day Educational Parade!

Primary school students proudly dressed up in vibrant tuna-themed costumes to raise awareness on the importance of the tuna industry to Seychelles and its contribution to our economy, livelihoods, and food security. The lively parade began at the National Library, made its way through Victoria, and concluded at the SFA Headquarters at Fishing Port.

One of the most heartwarming highlights of the day was the incredible participation from all ages, with the youngest participant being just 2 years old and the oldest 70 years old! 💙

The celebrations continued with an educational fun fair featuring interactive exhibitions and activities hosted by the SFA Sampling Team, Scientific Observers, and Fisheries Research team and also Tuna cans display sponsored by Indian Ocean tuna ltd.

Participants also enjoyed games and challenges such as:
🎣 Guess the Weight
🐟 Tuna Hunt
🪢 Untangle the Tuna
🎲 Hooks and Ladders

To end the day on a sweet note, everyone gathered around for the exciting tuna piñata treat! 🍬🎉

A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this year’s Tuna Day celebrations both educational and memorable!
