بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للتراث، الموافق 18 أبريل، تؤكد إدارة موقع التراث العالمي جزيرة مروي على أهمية التراث بوصفه ذاكرة الشعوب وأحد أهم مقومات الهوية الوطنية.
يُعد موقع التراث العالمي جزيرة مروي، المُدرج ضمن قائمة التراث العالمي، من أبرز الشواهد على عظمة الحضارة المروية، حيث يضم مجموعة فريدة من المواقع الأثرية، من بينها الأهرامات، والمعابد، وبقايا المدن الملكية التي تعكس تطورًا حضاريًا متميزًا في وادي النيل.
إن القيمة الاستثنائية لهذا الموقع لا تكمن فقط في معالمه المعمارية، بل أيضًا في ما يحمله من نقوش، ومضامين دينية، وشواهد تاريخية تسهم في فهم أعمق لتاريخ السودان القديم ودوره في الحضارات الإنسانية.
وفي ظل التحديات الراهنة - بما في ذلك العوامل الطبيعية، والضغوط البيئية، وتأثيرات النزاعات - تتطلب حماية هذا الموقع تكثيف الجهود في مجالات التوثيق، والصون، والإدارة المستدامة، إلى جانب تعزيز دور المجتمعات المحلية كشريك أساسي في الحفاظ على هذا الإرث.
وفي هذا اليوم، تجدد إدارة الموقع التزامها بحماية جزيرة مروي والعمل على صونها باعتبارها إرثًا إنسانيًا مشتركًا، وضمان استمراريتها للأجيال القادمة.

On the occasion of World Heritage Day, observed on April 18, the Administration of the Island of Meroe World Heritage Site affirms the importance of cultural heritage as the memory of nations and one of the fundamental pillars of national identity.
The Island of Meroe World Heritage Site, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, stands as one of the most prominent testimonies to the greatness of the Meroitic civilization. It encompasses a unique collection of archaeological sites, including pyramids, temples, and the remains of royal cities that reflect a distinguished level of cultural development in the Nile Valley.
The outstanding value of this site lies not only in its architectural features, but also in the inscriptions, religious expressions, and historical evidence it preserves, all of which contribute to a deeper understanding of ancient Sudanese history and its role in human civilization.
In light of current challenges—including natural factors, environmental pressures, and the impacts of conflict—the protection of this site requires intensified efforts in documentation, conservation, and sustainable management, as well as strengthening the role of local communities as essential partners in safeguarding this heritage.
On this day, the Administration reaffirms its commitment to protecting the Island of Meroe and working to preserve it as a shared heritage of humanity, ensuring its continuity for future generations.
