And the Waterways Wreath waves farewell to the Narrowboat Fulcrum and looks set to make waves with Daisys baking butty onboard the floating cafe (it's always handy to have supplies on a Route of Remembrance)!

Thank you Fulcrum for supporting the 2026 canals and waterways tour.

Wishing you and all our other wreath carriers a bon voyage 🚢.

Today is VF Day...

Today is the Liberation Day of the Falkland Islands.

The Veterans Charity Routes of Remembrance wreaths have visited the Islands on a couple of occasions and we hope to return to include a tour to South Georgia 🇬🇸 and possibly even on to the South Sandwich Islands.

We would love to hear from you if you are heading South on a tour.

One of our Wreaths returned to the UK to take part in with our friends at GWR.

But that is not all, nearly 10 years ago we received a pledge to grow remembrance on the Islands with The Scouts and Cubs on the Islands with our Ribbon of Poppies initiative.

Lest we forget.

🇫🇰 🇬🇧

Today marks 44 years since the end of The Falklands War.

Please stop for a moment during your day to remember those who fell during the 10-week conflict and to think of those who still carry the scars of battle today.

The courage and sacrifices must never be forgotten.

Two of The Veterans Charity team recently toured southern and central Scotland, so took several of our scallop shell "poppy plaques' with them.

One was left on the Mull of Kintyre, another in Oban and finally one at the Commando memorial at Spean Bridge.

They were however spoilt for choice and paid respects at a number of other memorials such as those in Dunoon and Holy Loch, the Chinook crash site on the Mull of Kintyre, as well as a number of other crashes from earlier in history.

But it wasn't all above ground! They even visited the "Secret" Underground Bunker in Fife complete with a subterranean memorial and then finally the memorial to "Yotties" onboard the Royal Yacht Britannia.

If you would like to create a Routes of Remembrance event contact The Veterans Charity and keep remembrance "moving".

Lest we forget the roles of the railways across the globe who helped build up the supplies and troops ready for D-Day and those trains that headed to Europe to replace trains attacked and destroyed by the Allies.

On Saturday the 30th of May The Veterans Charity team attended the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings at the magnificent Trebah Gardens, Cornwall.

They took with them the Rick Rescorla wreath as he grew up seeing tens of thousands of U.S. Army troops preparing to help launch the Liberation of Europe.

As his wreath is heading to New York for the 25th anniversary of 9/11 in September we left our second poppy plaque there as a tribute to those troops, sailors and airmen who never came home.

The plaque and wreath are made from shells from the Atlantic and the English Channel a subtle salute to those with no known grave but the sea.

That isn't all we left behind.

Sand from all 5 D-Day beaches was left as a reminder of those who got their boots on the beach.

Hats off to the crew of The Massive Adventure for going to Action Stations when a threat was spotted to the Waterways Wreath!

We never expected they would face hostile action on the nations Waterways!
