The Philippine Embassy in Sweden joined the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Philippine Culture and Leisure Association (Filippinska Kultur & Fritidsföreningen), through a Barrio Fiesta, which commemorated the three decades of the organization’s service and advocacy to promote Filipino culture and heritage.

On behalf of Ambassador Patrick A. Chuasoto, First Secretary and Consul Christiansen Cabahug expressed gratitude and commended the officers and members of the Philippine Culture and Leisure Association, led by its Chair, Ms. Zenaida F. Abbaspour Agdam, for building bridges to connect the cultures of the Philippines and Sweden, and providing a sense of home and community for the Filipinos.

Mr. Robert Aslan, Chairman of the Kultur & Fritidsnämnden of Botkyrka Municipality, also congratulated the Association on its milestone anniversary and acknowledged its valuable contributions to the community.

First Secretary Cabahug was joined by the Embassy’s Administrative Officer Regina Queenie Perol and Cultural Officer Ma. Luisa Roque.

One of the highlights of the Philippine Embassy’s economic diplomacy mission in Gotland was its visit to the Gotlandsbolaget AB headquarters in Visby.

Gotlandsbolaget AB is Sweden's oldest passenger shipping company known for operating the Gotland ferry service through its subsidiary Destination Gotland AB. In recent years, however, the company has become a driving force in energy transition for shipping. With its goal of achieving a completely climate-neutral crossing by 2045, Gotlandsbolaget launched the Horizon series which are ships designed to cut emissions while maintaining speed and capacity.

Gotland Horizon X, the second vessel in the Horizon series, is being constructed by Austal Philippines in its shipyard in Balamban, Cebu. As Gotlandsbolaget’s most ambitious shipbuilding project to date, the Horizon X is a high-speed catamaran built on gas turbines that can be powered by various fossil-free fuels, both in gas and liquid form, so-called multi-fuel. Horizon X is envisioned to be a high-speed, hydrogen-ready ferry which will have a capacity of 1,500 passengers and 400 vehicles.

During the meeting, Ambassador Patrick A. Chuasoto stressed that aside from being a seafarer nation, the Philippines is also positioned as a shipbuilding and ship repair player, with international and domestic shipyards operating in the country.

Ambassador Chuasoto also highlighted the other areas of economic cooperation which the Philippines and Sweden should pursue, especially with the forthcoming conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the Philippines and the European Union.

While Gotland and mainland Sweden are geographically separated by the Baltic sea, the island remains integrated, in every sense, with Sweden. Filipino community members in Gotland have the same connection, often engaging fellow Filipinos in Stockholm and other cities in Sweden.

During its meeting with some Filipinos in Gotland, the Embassy learned that the more than 100 Filipinos listed as gotlänning, or Gotland residents, are working in different fields, including in the education, healthcare, tourism, and hospitality industries.

Ambassador Patrick A. Chuasoto commended the Filipino community for continuing to express their Filipino heritage and looking after each other as kababayans. The Ambassador also encouraged them to strengthen their networks and become partners of the Embassy for future activities.

With sheep farming being an important and traditional industry in Gotland, as the sheep itself has become the island’s official heraldic symbol, the Embassy visited Graute Gård, a family-owned agricultural and rural-enterprise business in Hejnum, northern Gotland.

Owned and operated by Kjell Nilsson and Jenny Andersson since 1995, the farm’s activities combine sheep and lamb production, beef cattle, grain cultivation, forestry, direct food sales, farm tourism, and the manufacture and sale of Gotland lambskin products.

The visit was an opportunity for the Embassy to learn and see first-hand a diversified farm business model in Sweden which balances sustainability through landscape grazing and advanced farming technology.

Philippine Ambassador to Sweden Patrick Chuasoto and First Secretary and Consul Christiansen Cabahug met with M/S Gotland officers, Captain Johan Asp and Chief Engineer Roberto Skärkarl, as the Embassy began its economic diplomacy mission to Gotland, Sweden.

Operated by Destination Gotland, the M/S Gotland is a state-subsidized passenger and vehicle ferry which regularly travels between the Swedish mainland and the island of Gotland.

Captain Asp and Chief Engineer Skärkarl generously provided a tour of the M/S Gotland, highlighting the vessel’s advanced dual-fuel engine technology which runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied biogas (LBG), and marine diesel. The M/S Gotland officers also shared their appreciation for the work ethic of Filipino seafarers, who comprise 25% of the total global maritime workforce. The M/S Gotland is no exception as it has Filipino crew on board.

Philippine Ambassador to Sweden Patrick A. Chuasoto and Ambassador of Sweden to the Philippines Anna Ferry had a productive meeting yesterday, 27 August 2026, at the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm. Ahead of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Sweden, Ambassador Chuasoto and Ambassador Ferry discussed possible activities to mark the coming auspicious year.

The Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Sweden established diplomatic relations on 17 January 1947. In 2027, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union will also celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.

[LOOK] PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR PATRICK A. CHUASOTO MEETS WITH GOTLAND GOVERNOR GORNITZKA

Gotland, 24 August 2026 - Philippine Ambassador to Sweden Patrick A. Chuasoto paid a courtesy call on Gotland Governor Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, as part of the Embassy’s economic diplomacy mission in Gotland, Sweden.

Ambassador Chuasoto presented the possible opportunities for increased economic cooperation between the Philippines and Sweden, and the areas where the Philippines may learn from Gotland, including in the development of the tourism, agriculture, and energy sectors. The Ambassador also shared that more than 100 Filipinos are residing in Gotland who are working in the education, healthcare, and tourism and hospitality industries.

Governor Gornitzka expressed her excitement in learning about the thriving Filipino community in Gotland, Sweden’s largest island which sits in the middle of the Baltic Sea, and lies southeast of Stockholm. The Governor mentioned Gotland’s interest in exploring areas of cooperation with the Philippines, and its continued engagement and protection of Filipinos in Gotland. End

[LOOK] PHILIPPINE EMBASSY CELEBRATES BUWAN NG WIKA 2026

Stockholm, Sweden - The Philippine Embassy in Stockholm celebrated Buwan ng Wika 2026 on 22 August 2026 with members of the Filipino community through an afternoon of activities highlighting the richness of the Filipino language and cultural heritage. This year’s event carries the theme “Wikang Filipino : Tulay sa Kultura, Pagkakaisa, at Pagkakakilanlan”.

The program opened with the welcome remarks of H.E. Ambassador Patrick A. Chuasoto, which was read by Ms. Regina Queenie S.J. Perol, Administrative Officer of the Embassy. This was followed by a presentation on the history and significance of Baybayin by Ms. Flordeliza Panonce before the participants took part in a Baybayin Writing Workshop led by Ms. Mary Grace T. Eriksson. To apply their new-found knowledge, Ms. Rofilleta Refuerzo-Larsson facilitated an interactive Kahoot quiz and Pinoy Henyo games.

The activity not only provided a deeper appreciation of the Filipino language and indigenous writing system, but also allowed the participants to celebrate their Filipino heritage with their parents and friends.

The activity was organized by Ms. Ma. Luisa F. Roque, Cultural Officer of the Embassy, as part of the Embassy's continuing efforts to promote the Filipino language, culture, and heritage among the Filipino diaspora in Sweden. END

[LOOK] PHILIPPINE EMBASSY JOINS THE DAMAYAN SA SWEDEN SUMMER CELEBRATION IN ESKILSTUNA

The Philippine Embassy attended the summer celebration hosted by the Damayan sa Sweden Association in Eskilstuna, Sweden, on 15 August 2026. The Embassy was represented by First Secretary and Consul Christiansen D. Cabahug, Cultural Officer Ma. Luisa F. Roque, and Assistance to Nationals Officer Rene D. Salazar.

Consul Cabahug explained the benefits of Philippine dual citizenship and encouraged the attendees to remain connected with the Philippines and to take advantage of the opportunities and rights afforded to dual citizens.

Following her remarks, several kababayans sought information and clarification on the procedures, documentary requirements, and other questions on Philippine dual citizenship which were addressed by the Embassy representatives.
