The voices of our youth matter.

That's why Young PAP activists took it upon themselves to organise an engagement session this afternoon to hear their views on the proposed developments at Maju Forest and Gillman Barracks. The session focused on unpacking the trade-offs on our land-scarce island.

Young PAP advisers David Hoe and Lee Hui Ying joined the conversation. They listened to our youth and assured them that they will ask questions of the decision-makers, reflecting youth perspectives. This is part of a series of ground-up initiatives by our Young PAP activists to engage with important issues that affect our nation and our lives.

Participants raised diverse views, touching on the consultation process and how we should value greenery and biodiversity. Attendees shared that they appreciated having a platform to air and exchange views on these topics. Young PAP will continue to strengthen advocacy and engage extensively with young people.

Kebun Baru YP and Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru YP spent a morning togethers over the weekend: icebreakers over makan, a joint dialogue, board games after.

The dialogue was titled “The 101 of Running YP”. Both branch chairs sat in for it. Henry Kwek, MP for Kebun Baru SMC, and Foo Cexiang, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, talked about what they had in mind for YP when they took their branches on and what they have put in place since, and most of the time went to questions from the floor rather than the moderator.

The Young PAP Policy Team concluded our Focus Group Discussion on Social Mobility and Social Cohesion last Saturday.

The discussion was thoughtful, robust and, at times, intense. Participants brought diverse experiences and perspectives to complex questions on opportunity, meritocracy, inequality, identity and social cohesion.

Young PAP believe better ideas emerge when different viewpoints are discussed openly, challenged respectfully and refined through constructive debate. While participants did not always agree, there was a shared commitment to listening, learning from one another and working towards better policy outcomes for Singapore.

What does youth leadership actually mean? We took the question to the floor at YP40 today 🎤

First round of answers: one word each. Slay. Aura. Level up.

Then YP Adviser Charlene Chen 陈以君 asked a harder question: what does youth leadership mean to you?

“Accountability and innovation, because new ideas come from young people.” “Even though you’re a youth, you can do so much more than you think you’re capable of.”

Every person in this reel chose to spend their Saturday building something. That’s what 40 years looks like when it’s a movement, not a milestone.

You don’t need a title to lead. You don’t need to wait for the perfect moment to make a difference.

Every generation gets its turn to shape Singapore in its own way, and ours is no different. Forty years ago, young Singaporeans stepped forward to serve and build community.

That’s what YP Adviser Bernadette Giam is marking at YP40: not as nostalgia, but as a handover to whoever’s ready to pick it up next.

The future doesn’t belong to someone else. It belongs to us.

Youths care. Youths matter. And the future everyone keeps talking about isn’t someday. It’s the one young Singaporeans are building right now.

In his YP40 teaser, YP Vice Chair Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi puts it plainly: bring our youth into one place, their energy, their range of views, their care for this country, and celebrate it together.

What were our YP youths up to this Mother’s Day?

Tying ribbons. Handing carnations. Pulling up chairs at hawker centres to chat with the mothers and mothers-in-spirit who hold our estates together.

Across markets and town centres islandwide, our members spent the morning saying thank you the old-fashioned way: face to face, one flower at a time. To the women who raised us, fed us, watched our kids while we worked late, and kept their doors open to neighbours who needed somewhere to sit down for a while: we see you.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Young PAP 🌷
