Good news for Singapore!šŸ¤

Today, the MERCOSUR-Singapore Free Trade Agreement entered into force for Singapore and Brazil. As Singapore's 29th Free Trade Agreement, it is another important step in keeping our economy open, connected and full of opportunities for our people and businesses.

Brazil is the largest economy in MERCOSUR and one of Singapore's biggest trading partners in Latin America. Through this agreement, tariffs on around 96% of products will be eliminated over time, making it easier and more cost-effective for our businesses to export and grow in the region.

What does this mean for Singaporeans? As our businesses gain better access to overseas markets, they can expand, create new opportunities and support good jobs here at home.

My thanks to everyone who contributed over the years to bring this agreement into force. Together, we are creating more opportunities for Singaporeans and strengthening Singapore's place in the global economy.

Met Sijun, Cara, and many other talented artists at the Kiat Limā€“Shaping Hearts Awards last evening, as we celebrated their achievements and potential.

The Shaping Hearts initiative has empowered many artists with disabilities to express themselves through art, while nurturing their talents and supporting their personal and professional growth. Through their creativity, they enrich our community, foster greater inclusivity, and inspire many amongst us with their resilience and passion.

Congratulations to all the award recipients, and thank you to the North East Community Development Council, patron Mr Kiat Lim, and all partners and volunteers for your generous support and encouragement in making art education more accessible, and making Singapore a more inclusive home for everyone.

The Government has just announced a further package of assistance measures to help Singaporeans and businesses manage cost pressures due to the continuing situation in the Middle East, which may result in elevated energy prices and higher costs. This latest set of measures - taken with the earlier support package announced in April - amounts to around $2 billion of Government support.

The road ahead may be bumpy, but we stand ready to lend a hand and help those who may be feeling the crunch.

Had a midday ā€œcoffee fixā€ through art with our residents at the Coffee Art Sustainability Workshop last weekend. We exercised our creativity and painted our ā€œmasterpiecesā€ using coffee ā€” a fun way to upcycle leftover or stale coffee at home.

Thank you to the Punggol North Youth Network and Waterfront RN for organising this workshop. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Glad to join Chan Hui Yuh at Kampong Serangoonā€™s National Day Dinner to celebrate the occasion and mark their 20th anniversary. Spirits were high and the sense of community was strong as we waved our flags and sang along to our favourite songs.

Glad to join Punggol North residents for our own screening of Dear You ē»™å•Šå¬·ēš„ęƒ…ä¹¦. The film was a touching story of the great sacrifices made by early migrants looking for a better life.

It was a good way for young and old to unwind this past weekend, and bond over the enduring values of family, love and resilience.
