"Feeling stuck at work?
Sometimes it's due to things beyond your control, like the economy, company changes or a tough job market. But sometimes, it's the conversations we never have, the assumptions we don’t realise we’re making or simply staying in our comfort zone.
One of my clients felt she was always being overlooked for promotions and high-profile projects. As she had never shared her career aspirations, her manager assumed that as a mother of two young children, she preferred a lighter workload.
One honest career conversation changed the course of her career. Once her manager understood her career goals, she was given opportunities to lead organisation-wide projects, and within a year, she was promoted.
If you’re feeling stuck in your career, it might be worth asking yourself these three questions:
⚠️ Am I staying because this role fits my goals or simply because it feels familiar?
⚠️ Am I still learning new skills and growing regardless of my seniority?
⚠️ Am I showing others that I’m ready for the next step, not just doing my current job well?
Career growth doesn’t always start with changing jobs. Sometimes, it starts with changing how we think, what we communicate or the actions we choose to take.
Knowing where you are today is the first step towards getting to where you want to be."
