Russia’s overnight attack on Kyiv struck one of the greatest holy sites of Christianity and a UNESCO World Heritage site – the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

A fire covering approximately 800 square meters broke out on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral after the attack. Emergency crews continue to work at the site.

The damage occurred during a massive Russian assault on Kyiv that killed at least four people and injured dozens more. The strike also caused a fire at a building of the Mystetskyi Arsenal National Cultural, Arts and Museum Complex, where flames spread across about 1,000 square meters.

Targeting the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is an unforgivable attack on Ukraine’s cultural and spiritual heritage and on a site of outstanding value to humanity. We expect a strong response from the international community.

💬 "We will be urgently initiating all relevant procedures within UNESCO and all other international mechanisms, demanding immediate and adequate responses to this state barbarism.

We expect strong reactions by international institutions and capitals. No vague words, silence, or weak steps. We need action now to stop Russian barbarism," Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha has stressed.

Russian forces launched a massive overnight attack on Kyiv on June 15. While the assault is still ongoing, it has already damaged residential buildings, sparked multiple fires, and disrupted power supplies. One of the strikes hit the historic Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Ukraine’s most significant religious landmarks.

1,568 days.

That’s how long World War I lasted.

As of today, Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has lasted just as long. Millions displaced, thousands killed, entire cities destroyed — and Europe’s largest war since 1945 is still not over.

On the night of June 9, Russia launched a massive attack on the Kharkiv region, damaging residential buildings, a business centre, a church, administrative and industrial premises, and other civilian infrastructure. At least 15 people, including two children, were injured.

In Chuhuiv, Russian missile strikes killed three civilians – two men and a woman. Homes and other buildings were damaged. Three more people were injured.

In the Dnipro region, Russia targeted emergency responders. After firefighters had extinguished a blaze caused by an earlier strike, their vehicle came under another Russian attack while returning to base. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Yesterday, on June 8, Russia also struck Zaporizhzhia with drones: two women were killed and 32 people were injured, including five children. The same day Russia killed one person in the Dnipro region and injured five more; in the Sumy region, a woman was killed and a child was injured as a result of Russia’s attack.

Every day, Russia demonstrates that its war is directed against civilian life itself. Stronger sanctions, pressure on the aggressor and continued support for Ukraine are crucial to save lives and bring a just peace closer.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemns yet another attack by the Russian Federation on a Ukrainian nuclear infrastructure facility – the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility.

On June 7, 2026, at 02:10 a.m., a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle attacked the container reception building of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility.

As a result of the explosion, the container reception building was partially destroyed. The blast wave also damaged adjacent buildings, including the premises used by IAEA experts. The fire that broke out as a result of the attack was localized by the facility's own team.

The attack on the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility is yet another deliberate strike by Russia against Ukraine's peaceful nuclear infrastructure. Such actions create unacceptable risks to nuclear safety and security, undermine the international nuclear safety, security, and safeguards regime, and demonstrate Russia's complete disregard for the IAEA Charter, relevant safety standards, and the Agency's guidelines.

Russia continues to commit crimes in the nuclear sphere. A state that has occupied Europe's largest nuclear power plant, turns nuclear facilities into an instrument of military blackmail, and attacks the nuclear infrastructure facilities of another state cannot be perceived as a reliable partner in international nuclear cooperation.

The MFA of Ukraine calls on partners to draw appropriate political conclusions from this attack. Cooperation with the Russian nuclear industry carries reputational, security, and political risks. It effectively supports a state that systematically destroys the foundations of nuclear safety and security.

Ukraine calls on states, international organizations, companies, and financial institutions to wind down cooperation with the Russian nuclear industry, refrain from new projects with Russia in this area, and increase sanctions pressure on the Russian nuclear sector, including companies, officials, and entities involved in the occupation of Ukrainian nuclear facilities and the support of Russian aggression.

Ukraine has already informed the IAEA Secretariat about this attack and insists on its proper reflection in the relevant communications and reports of the Agency, in particular in the context of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting commencing on June 8, 2026.

We call on international partners, member states, and the IAEA Secretariat to provide a principled assessment of this attack.

Silence or blurred formulations only encourage Russia to launch further strikes on Ukraine's nuclear infrastructure, thereby endangering millions of people.

As Ukraine marks Journalists’ Day today, we underscore the vital mission of telling the truth about Russia’s war against Ukraine, documenting the crimes of the aggressor state, and sharing the realities faced by the Ukrainian people with the world.

This mission is not easy and is often carried out under extremely dangerous conditions. We are grateful to all journalists who continue their work despite the serious risks, helping ensure that facts prevail over propaganda and that the truth is heard.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, at least 149 media professionals have been killed, including 21 while carrying out their journalistic duties. Around 30 Ukrainian journalists and media workers remain in Russian captivity.

Eternal memory to all those who lost their lives due to Russia’s aggression. Ukraine works every day to secure the release of every media employee from Russia’s brutal captivity.

Ambassador Kateryna Zelenko:
"Our sincere gratitude to Singapore Red Cross for its generous humanitarian support provided to the Centre for Social & Psychological Rehabilitation of Children in Sumy, Ukraine.
This important contribution includes essential equipment and supplies that will significantly improve the living, learning, healthcare and recovery conditions for children under the Center’s care.
The assistance package includes household and kitchen equipment, medical furniture and devices, emergency and sanitary supplies, clothing, hygiene products, office materials, and many other items necessary for the daily operation of the two rehabilitation facilities of the Centre.
Beyond the material value of this support, it is a powerful message of solidarity and compassion toward Ukrainian children who continue to face the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
By helping create a safer and more supportive environment for these kids, Singapore Red Cross is making a meaningful difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
We are grateful to the people of Singapore for their commitment to humanitarian values and unwavering support for children in need."
