Sometimes, understanding what really happened requires asking the harder questions.

In court, after a witness gives their account, the opposing party's lawyer gets to question them directly — testing whether their story holds up under scrutiny. This process is known as cross-examination.

By allowing both sides to challenge the evidence presented, cross-examination helps ensure that no single account goes unquestioned — making it a cornerstone of a fair trial.

Is "vacating a hearing" just a fancy way to say "rescheduling"? Not quite.

To vacate a hearing is not the same as re-fixing one. Re-fixing moves the hearing to another date, while vacating removes it from the calendar altogether, after valid grounds for the request have been approved by the court.

Singapore and Vietnam have taken a significant step in strengthening bilateral judicial ties. The Supreme Court of Singapore and the Supreme People's Court of Vietnam will cooperate on the development of a specialised international commercial court in Vietnam. This comes as part of an MOU signed on 29 May. Building on a 2017 agreement, the MOU deepens cooperation between the two judiciaries which covers knowledge exchange, judicial training, and the sharing of best practices in court processes - reinforcing both nations' commitment to robust and internationally competitive dispute resolution frameworks. The Judicial Insolvency Network (JIN) convened its 7th Annual Conference in London on 18 April 2026, marking a decade since its founding in 2016. Bringing together 23 judges from across member jurisdictions, the conference saw the launch of an online jurisprudence repository, a joint initiative with the Judicial Dispute Resolution Network to develop best practices for mediation in insolvency proceedings, and the development of a judges' guide on the recognition of foreign insolvency proceedings.
