Banksmen and traffic controllers play a critical role in maintaining the safe movement of vehicles and equipment at work sites.

However, they may be exposed to significant risks as they are often close to moving vehicles, reversing operations or construction equipment. Serious or fatal accidents can occur when a banksman or traffic controller enters a danger zone in the course of work.

WSH professionals play a critical role in preventing their colleagues from getting hurt at work.

This is an ethical responsibility that must be upheld with professionalism, integrity, and accountability. Personal or financial gain must never be allowed to compromise workers’ safety and lives.

The WSH Council calls on all WSH professionals and workers in safety-related roles to always choose safety, uphold integrity, and honour the trust placed in them to keep workplaces safe.

The WSH Council is pleased to support the Advanced Manufacturing Employees' Union (AMEU) at its recent event under the Work Safe Initiative.

The event brought together employers, workers, WSH practitioners, union leaders and technology providers to explore how robotics and technology can help reduce workplace risks, improve ergonomics, and strengthen worker safety and well-being in the advanced manufacturing sector.

We applaud AMEU for its continued efforts to raise WSH awareness and encourage the adoption of practical, deployable solutions, and look forward to working with industry stakeholders to build safer, smarter and more resilient workplaces. 💪

👷🏻‍♂️ 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗨𝗽 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵

Ahead of July, when the construction, manufacturing, and transportation & storage industries typically experience seasonally higher injury rates, the WSH Council urges all companies to remain vigilant and step up measures to safeguard workers’ safety and health.

Companies should strengthen efforts to prevent the common factors contributing to workplace incidents, such as:

💦 Slips, trips, and falls (STF);
⚠️ Falls from height (FFH);
🔧 Failure of structures and equipment;
⚙️ Machine-related incidents; and
🚚 Vehicle-related incidents.

Warmer and drier months may be ahead for Singapore. According to the Meteorological Service Singapore, such conditions are expected from June to October, alongside an increased risk of transboundary haze.

As temperatures rise, so do risks. In hot working environments, pushing through fatigue may seem productive, but it can increase the risk of mistakes, impaired judgement, and heat stress.
