Twenty-one artists. One island shaped by many histories.
𝙎𝙪𝙗𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙨 gathers twenty-one artists from Taiwan whose works move between memory and migration, belief and technology, intimate experience and everyday life. Here, the world's most advanced semiconductors sit alongside generations-old pilgrimage traditions, where future and tradition unfold in the same breath.
Through photography, video, archives, photobooks, installation, and AI-generated imagery, these works arrive as signals: emerging from personal stories, yet opening onto broader histories we continue to inhabit.
Presented in Singapore, a city likewise shaped by migration and transnational movement, these images may feel both familiar and distinct. They invite us to consider how pictures help us make sense of the times we live in. Subtropical Signals is curated by Joanna Fu, as part of DECK's Associate Creative Programme (ACP).

展覽《亞熱帶訊號：台灣當代影像生產》匯集二十一位來自台灣的藝術家，透過攝影、錄像、檔案、攝影書、裝置與 AI 生成影像等不同媒介，探討歷史、記憶、遷徙、信仰、科技、身份、身體、親密關係與日常生活之間的關係。展覽關注影像如何從彼此交疊的現實中生成。
在台灣，世界最先進的半導體產業與延續數代的宗教遶境傳統共享著同一片土地。高科技基礎設施、地方信仰、全球網絡與歷史遺緒共同存在於同一個社會之中。未來與傳統、地方與全球、數位科技與長久延續的文化實踐同時展開，形塑出台灣當代影像生產的條件。長期以來，海洋路徑、殖民歷史、人口遷徙與跨國流動持續塑造著這座島嶼，使不同的歷史經驗與文化脈絡在此交會。
參展藝術家多從殖民歷史、遷徙經驗、個人敘事、親密關係、女性經驗、地方景觀、宗教實踐與日常遭遇出發，揭示更廣泛的歷史與社會力量如何透過個體生命顯現。《亞熱帶訊號》並不試圖呈現一個單一的台灣形象，而是提供多重觀看當代生活的視角。這些作品如同來自不同位置的訊號，在個人經驗與歷史、記憶與變遷、地方現實與全球流動之間，描繪出彼此交錯的關係。
