High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq had a productive and engaging interaction with students of the Executive Program at LUMS Lahore and Pakistani professionals from the IT and AI sectors working in Singapore.

LUMS faculty member Badar Khushnood shared that the group is on a study visit to Southeast Asia, where they have visited leading technology companies including Google and Meta to gain first-hand insights into their operations and working environments.

During the interaction, the High Commissioner highlighted Singapore’s remarkable development journey and noted that, despite its small size, the country has successfully maintained its global relevance. She emphasized that Pakistan can learn from Singapore’s experience, particularly in digital transformation, data centres, smart applications, fintech, innovation and technology-driven development.

She noted that Pakistan has no shortage of talent, and that the key opportunity lies in connecting this talent with the right knowledge, technology and global networks.

The High Commissioner extended her best wishes to the energetic and forward-looking group of Pakistani students and professionals, and expressed her appreciation to Pakistani-origin professionals in Singapore who took the time to interact with and mentor the students.

She wished the group continued success as they contribute to Pakistan’s growing technology and innovation ecosystem.

Flag-Hoisting Ceremony Held at Pakistan House, Singapore, to Mark 80th Independence Day of Pakistan

Singapore: A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at Pakistan House, Singapore, to celebrate the 80th Independence Day of Pakistan. Members of the Pakistani community, officials of the High Commission of Pakistan, and their families attended the ceremony.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore Rabia Shafiq hoisted the national flag to the tune of the National Anthem. Messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out on the occasion.

In her remarks, the High Commissioner said that Pakistanis were celebrating Independence Day across the world with renewed commitment to the ideals of freedom, unity, and national progress. She paid rich tribute to the struggle and visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, whose leadership culminated in the creation of Pakistan. She noted that the Government of Pakistan is observing the 150th Birth Anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah this year through a range of commemorative activities.

The High Commissioner highlighted the resilience of the Pakistani nation and underscored Pakistan’s continued role as an advocate and interlocutor for peace in the region and beyond. She also congratulated the nation on the landmark ‘Makkah Joint Defence Agreement’ which reaffirms Pakistan’s resolve to strengthen cooperation in addressing the evolving peace and security challenges facing our region. She reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to play its role in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation at the regional and global levels.

The High Commissioner also commended the overseas Pakistani community for its invaluable role in projecting Pakistan’s culture and positive image abroad, as well as for its significant contribution to the country’s economy through remittances.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for global peace and for the security, stability, and economic prosperity of Pakistan, in accordance with the vision and ideals of the country’s founding fathers.
